Vote for me, the other guy brings the district too much money.

Try to believe that this is suspicious, that it's somehow wrong. Rep. Mike Boland has delivered $800,000 in grants to many communities where it's greatly appreciated and desperately needed.

Yes, that's the screaming headline in today's Dispatch/Argus, who devotes the banner headline and above the fold page one real estate to the asinine charge by Steve Harring that Boland bringing in this aid is a bad thing somehow.

Only in today's bizarro-world politics could this sort of non-sense become a standard tactic of Rovian Republican campaigns. Scandal? Some Republican caught red-handed? Why.... if it's revealed before the election, it's the other guy's fault for disclosing it. Get mad at THEM... forget about the real misconduct at the heart of the story.

Apparently in Republican-world, you can't do anything or say anything within a few weeks of election day, or you're guilty, guilty, guilty. And of what? Why, trying to get elected.... an obvious sin, unless of course, you're condemning this conduct by your opponent as a ploy to ...... try to get elected.

Why is the Dispatch/Argus screaming this as a headline? Why is it presented as a big scandal?

Why....what did Rep. Boland do that's so foul?

Well.... (you better sit down for this)... he's given $800,000 of grant money that is given to legislators to award at their discretion, and he did it too close to the election.

HORRORS!!!!

How can the public stand this sort of thing? Scandalous!!!

Surely there will be many, many voters who had already made up their minds to vote for Mike Boland, but now.... now that he's been revealed to have... (shudder) delivered hundreds of thousands of dollars for small town fire departments, park projects, etc. why, we simply can't have that!!

I can just see Haring's new ad....

Mike Boland brings in grant money to needy communities. Can we afford more of THAT?

Vote for Steve Haring. He won't stoop to providing much needed state grants. Count on it.

The problem is the timing. Second, why didn't Boland use the grant money to open the Silvis grade school?

These rubber checks are being used to "bribe" voters into thinking Boland is getting things done? Why didn't Boland announce these grants when they were originally made? The timming and Boland are suspect.

The latest Republican poll has Boland down three.

If the Young guns McNeil, Ahearn and Rumler want to have a chance they all need Haring to win. The district is democratic and Madigan will pay for whoever comes out of the primary to take on haring. Boland will come out of this race with all of the amo spent against him Stronger than before. Boland Beat Ahearn by 15% in the primary and then Haring got to within 10% of Boland in the general. Now it looks as though Haring will beat Boland. No one had the courage to beat run against Boland in the general. Boland will have $150,000 in the bank after this election and McNeil, Ahearn, and Rumler will have $0.00. What chance would they have against Boland? The time is now!!!

Be careful what you wish for Anonymous at November 4, 2006 11:55 AM.

If Haring wins - the district loses, don't let anyone fool ya. Not only would the Dems lose a seat in the House, but the area would lose out BIG TIME.

When the Sterling/Rock Falls based seat of Penny Von Bergen Wessels was lost to Jerry Mitchell in a close race back in '94 , the Democrats lost for good. Dems have still never won the seat back, and Sterling / Rock Falls is Dem territory, Lane Evans always ran strong in that area.

Heck, I'd even wager that all the small towns Boland is helping would lose too.

Wow, the Democrats 'lost for good' in Sterling-RF, maybe that is because Jerry Mitchell is doing a good job?

Maybe Democrats win, when Republicans win?

19-quarters of economic growth - Nationally, yet the 17th stagnates (maybe because of Democrat control of the State and District)???

When Republicans had control of the 17th, 24-years ago, the area grew. Now that was a different time, of course, but, doesn't it make one wonder???

Regardless this race has been the talk of Springfield. Boland will look at, as vulnerable Mike Boland is no longer a formidable statewide candidate. Phil Hare is in congress forever just like Lane.

All eyes are on a Mayor name Mark.

Mike, I mean Anonymous: start spending your 150,000.00 on your loyal Republican Staff.

Shalom,

Leland Milton Goldblatt

I do not believ Bolands staff to be republican. Huntoon is a people person and is above political labels.

. The news just showed the add and had haring saying that the charges are true. They had some dems saying that they didn't want to be in the add.

Can't be talking about me, I'm certainly no Republican.

Of course the Dem's don't want to be in the ad. However, the quotes are accurate - they were said - and they are fair game.

The Dem's have spent years in-fighting with Boland, they do not like him and he is a bad politician (this is in their own words).

Blaming Haring for these issues is nothing more than a case of 'shooting the messanger!'
