Haring campaign offers nothing but negative start to finish

The campaign of Republican Steve Haring must have had a meeting months ago and decided that they wouldn't stand a chance discussing their candidate or his stand on issues. Instead, they decided on a strategy of going major negative from day one and to stay firmly in the ditch all the way through.

An Illinios Republican Party mailing blared that fellow Democrats in the area are opposed to Boland, featuring their pictures and one word quotes from various Democratic county board members including Sen. Mike Jacobs' uncle Don Jacobs, John Malvik, and Bill Armstong, who's quoted saying, "I didn't know you had to pay to get help from you legislators", with friends like these, who needs enemies?

But their latest dive into the gutter is a robo call.

The boogie-man raised by this recorded message is, of all things, cross-dressers.
The calls shows up on caller ID as being from the non-existant area code 853 and is from the front group "Family PAC", a homophobic group which apparently thinks that fixating on gays and trying to deny them human rights is the most pressing problem facing the country.

Apparently Boland didn't toe their line on a gay rights bill and so they're punishing him for not sharing their narrow backwards views.

A voice informs the listener that "party loyalty only goes so far" and says that Boland has "disgraced" local Democrats by supposedly voting to "allow cross-dressers to file lawsuits against small businesses if they don't hire them.", asking "Is this western Illinois values?"

First of all, "western Illinois values", if there is such a thing, probably thinks that calling people with this sort of garbage is pretty low. And these "values" also don't support a candidate who spends enormous amounts of money trying to get elected and has a message that consists almost entirely of attacks and smears against his opponent.

Obviously, they don't want voters to know who they'd be voting for if they voted Haring, and just as obviously feel that their best bet is getting people to vote against Boland and slip Haring in without voters getting too good a look at what he supports.

I hope they get past the "considering" stage and actually do so soon.

Seeing those one word quotes without any context at all reminded me of those stupid movie ads where they put up a word or two from some review.

You know, the ads that say "AMAZING" when the full review probably read, "It will be AMAZING if anyone can sit all the way through this steaming pile of cinimatic dung."

And Boland offers so much more?????

Yes Boland does.

Mike Boland was just named Legislator of the Year by the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Illinois. Mike was the ONLY Illinois legislator to get that award in ‘06. That’s a TREMENDOUS honor.

Boland's been the recipient of the Golden Helmet Award from the Professional Firefighters, and the White Helmet Award from the Volunteer Firefighters. Those are the HIGHEST possible honors a civilian can receive from Firefighters. Mike Boland earned the respect he has from firefighters and other first responders with hard work on their behalf.

Boland has passed bills banning state purchases of goods made by political and religious prisoners in repressive regimes overseas, as well as banning state purchases of goods made by child labor. How many State Reps can say they have taken a bite out of child labor and forced labor? Mike Boland can declare it proudly, he sponsored those bills.

Boland’s been the recipient of the “Friend of Agriculture” award in every term he’s served in the legislature. Boland's passed bills to help veteran's and seniors, he's been honored by groups representing individuals with disabilities and by a great number of others. Boland’s been the recipient of more than 30 major awards and honors during his time in the legislature, including the “Friend of the Taxpayer” award.

Ever buy one of those Veteran’s Lottery Ticket? In ‘06 that lottery ticket program will raise more than $6-$8 MILLION for veteran’s health care and other veteran’s needs. That bill was initiated and sponsored by Boland in the Illinois House.

The Military Family Relief Fund Checkoff was also legislation initiated and sponsored by Boland. It raises funds to help the families of Reservists and National Guardsmen from Illinois who have been called to active duty in the war on terror. Not only was Boland the House sponsor of this legislation which has now been enacted in Illinois, but we can even point to several other states with similar programs because of the example we set here in Illinois.

How’s that?

It would just open the wound up again when the reporters ask. So Mr. Jacobs when did you call Mr. Boland Assinine? All of these quotes are real and to have to explain it will only bring about more negative attention. I think the people are smart enough to read the dates and figure it out. Why open these wounds up on the front page again?

Someone has been leaving several comments a day boasting about how the Jacobs are supposedly saving Boland and will "pull him across the line" and on and on. Or else the same people write in long attacks on Boland, listing all of Harings talking points.

I haven't posted them because I'm not going to be a part of other Dems trying to attack Boland, and the fact that I don't know if half of their allegations are true.

I find it ironic that they've been so vocal in trying to say how much the Jacobs are helping Boland when I just saw negative quotes from both Denny and Donny Jacobs featured prominently in a Haring TV ad.

With help like that.....

These people also write in accusing me of being "in love" with Boland.

Not the case. I've had no contact with Boland and have no affiliation with him or his campaign.

But I would note that since I've started this blog, Boland hasn't acted like a complete asshole, hasn't attacked myself or the blog, and has been no trouble. I have no reason to think badly of him or his campaign.

I also don't think electing Steve Haring would be good for the area, the state, or the country, and I'm not going to allow my blog to be used by Boland's Democratic enemies to kick him while he's in a tight race.

So get over it.

Why don't you and Boland get married and start a family?

Great idea. I'll get on that right away.

(cretins...sheesh.)

Anything to get rid of Boldand. This guy is creep.

And I Leland Milton Goldblatt, believe:
Republicans want to starve kids, kick old people out on the street, take away your liberites, make poor people have to eat dog food to survive, poison the air, land and water and kill millions of American kids with your imperialist wars.

Remeber Lisa?

Would it be better for Ahern, McNeil, Rumler, or whoever to run against a weakend Boland in the next primary, or is it better to run against a newly elected Steven M. "Steve" Haring in the next general election?

Remember, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Boland will have $150,000 in the bank. He will just have survived a battle where all of the amo against Boland has been spent. It is time to take Boland out for the good of the area. Then the young fresh faces Rumler, McNeil, Ahearn and Darrow can fight it out in an open primary. None of these guys could fight agsinst Boland with Boland having $150,000 in his war chest. Madigan is spending his money and leting Mike Keep his money to wartd off his investment in the next Primary.
The time is now.

Be careful what you wish for . . .

If Haring wins - the district loses, don't let anyone fool ya. Not only would the Dems lose a seat in the House, but the area would lose out BIG TIME.

When the Sterling/Rock Falls based seat of Penny Von Bergen Wessels was lost to Jerry Mitchell in a close race back in '94 , the Democrats lost for good. Dems have still never won the seat back, and Sterling / Rock Falls is Dem territory, Lane Evans always ran strong in that area.

Heck, I'd even wager that all the small towns Boland is helping would lose too.

Penny Von Bergen Wessels is a point.

Those people in Henry county are crazy, they kill their own kids for fun and then hang the killers later for more fun.

Still a risk worth taking, slime is slime; our slime or their slime. And Mike Boland is slime.

But Randy Heaton was in for on term so was the guy the beat Jim Shaw

Haring does not need to be negative - as his ad quoting prominent Democrats shows, Democrats are negative enough against Boland!

Great ad!

I told you the jacobs Family cut a deal with Madigan to support Boland. You are so niave!

Anon,

And what's your proof? If the Jacobs are supporting Boland, they have a damned funny way of doing it, that's for certain. With friends like that, who needs enemies?

Dope do you mean Denny Jacobs saying that Boland is Amazing. The hardest campaigner that he had ever seen. D/A 10-22. Donny Jacobs endorsing Boland 10-29 D/A. Or Mike Jacobs contributing to Bolands campaign and sponsoring and passing 3 of the 15 bills that Boland has passed in 11 years. Helping Boland get the most bills that he ever passed in a year, 3. Mike Jacobs has been on Three of Bolands campaign ads as Working together. Then only yesterday Don Jacobs went and supported Boland on the T.V. My understanding is that Mike Jacobs is going to mention Boland at the airport with Blago.

If it were not for the Jacobs family Boland would have no chance in this election. They are the ones helping to get Boland to within stricking distance.

What's the difference between Jacobs and God?

God doesn't think he's Jacobs.
