Final arguments given, jury still out in Sarah Kolb murder trial

Barb Ickes sums up the final day of the Sarah Kolb murder trial.
The Rock Island County Circuit Court jury hearing the Sarah Kolb murder trial has been behind closed doors since 9:30 a.m. today, deciding the fate of the 17-year-old Milan girl.

Jurors received about 15 minutes of instructions defining basic elements of the law from Circuit Judge James Teros this morning before entering chambers to decide a verdict in the case.

On Monday, a final moment on the witness stand by the defendant, four hours of closing arguments and the mysterious dismissal of a juror brought the two-week trial to an end.

Jurors must reach three verdicts: one for concealment of a homicide and two for first-degree murder.

One of the jurors, a woman, was dismissed from the 12-person panel after Monday’s closing arguments. No explanation was given and an alternate was appointed to replace her.

In his final arguments, State’s Attorney Jeff Terronez first spent about 30 minutes going over testimony from what he described as “grisly, gruesome details” surrounding the murder of Adrianne Reynolds. He concluded with another hour of final statements after Kolb’s attorney, David Hoffman, completed his arguments.
This is Terronez's big day in the sun. Anyone think there's a chance Kolb might be aquitted or found guilty of only some of or lesser charges?

actually, with 8 hours of deliberation the first day, there is evidence, that indeed this was not Mr. Terronez's finest hour. Jeff did not present a slam dunk case. Of course Kolb will be found guilty, but the 30 something S.A. was exposed.

Jeff- the most serious case in decades, and you presented a terrribly weak case.

I wonder why Mike Darrow did not run for the post? He would have easily beaten Jeff Terronez for States Atty and had a much easier time at it than the bashing he got running for State Rep against an incumbant and Madigan....

Maybe Darrow will consider a future run against Terronez? This may give him pause to look!

I have also been quite puzzled by the tack of prosecution taken by Terronez.....

Seemed like he left the window open a few inches for Hoffman and was caught off guard so to speak. The longer the Jury is out the better for the defense they say.

Terronez is being groomed by Lane Evans to be the next congressman.
Look for all other candidates to be offered something to clear the decks!
Even though they have probably told Darrow he was their favorite too!
