Topinka vacuum revisited

With Judy Baar Topinka, the current Republican state treasurer, now planning to run for governor, what are your thoughts on how this affects the calculus in the Democratic party, particularly as it relates to the Democratic race for Treasurer.

The situation is largely cast already, with Speaker Madigan traveling to the Quad Cities earlier in the year to in effect decree that the two Mikes and Pat should stay put, hold hands, put a game smile on their faces, and get on with it.

Then there was the controversial pick of Geneseo native Paul Mangieri to be the anointed Dem candidate for Treasurer.

Dan Johnson-Weinberger at his DJWinfo agrees with John Fritchey, (the state Rep. who's blog I've previously mentioned here), who suggests that now that Topinka has jumped, the party should concentrate on running the strongest possible candidate, whether it's Mangieri or not. Who do you think would be a stronger candidate, if anyone? Would or should (or can) Boland go for it?

What are your thoughts and observations on this complex situation?

I don't think Boland is well known enough to run for a state office. But who knows. I doubt he will run without Madigans support though. Didn't he tell Mike to stay put?

Hopefully yes, and hopefully no.

I opened it up again in hopes of encouraging more people to comment, but again, any comments which violate standards are subject to being axed.

While it's now possible to comment as anonymous, I'm still asking people to PLEASE, at the very least, fill in some sort of user name besides the generic "anonymous" when doing so. You're still anonymous, but at least we have some sort of identifying name with which to identify your comments if nothing else. It's not asking too much.

If too many people all post as "anonymous", it really leads to confusion and waters down comments in general.

If it become a problem where there are too many comments as "anonymous", they will run the risk of being zapped, or I will simply go back to the registered users only policy.

I just got off the phone with the Executive Director of the ACLU. I related that theinsidedopeblog.spot.com has taken to censoring comments on the web they don't agree with.

The lady said, "The Fist Amendment exist precisley to protect the most offensive and controversial speech from suppression."

She went on to add, "The best way to control obnoxious speech is with more speech. Persuasion, not coercion, is the solution!"

The woman stated that her group was holding a Board Meeting in the AM, and that she would insert this information in the agenda. She promised to follow up our converstaion and asked that I submit a written complaint, as I have since done.

As soon as I get a reply, I will forward it to the site for all to read.

Those of us that love freedome have a duty to stand up to theinsidedope!

Boland doesn't have the organization to even collect the needed number of signatures to run for Topinka's (soon to be) old job - so barring a phone call from God - ie the Speaker and his Madigoons - Boland sits tight. Anything else is just wishful thinking!

I just had to share the above comment from CountyDemo for the laugh value. Does it get any better?

CD, you're a very confused individual, but you be sure to keep us posted, ok?

And anon, thanks for your comment, but PLEASE pick a name other than "anonymous" in the future. Thanks.

countydemo,
Very funny indeed. Just in case anyone reading this blog does not realize it, the ACLU limits its concern about censorship to censorship by government. Complaining to the ACLU about the New York Times not publishing your letter to editor or a blog not publishing your submitted comments does not generate any action on their part. I am sure their agenda is already full of genuine first amendment issues.

As I said Dave, CountyDemo is a little confused. But they keep trying nonetheless. Bless 'em.

Anyone hear anything of Boland circulating for Treasurer? He is amazinging swift at the processes involved in running for office and could easily get his signatures in record time if needed.

Please report any word on the street.
