It's a horse race, neck and neck down to the wire

The 72nd District poll is really tight. There's been an amazing number of votes flooding in today and the spread between Darrow and O'Brien has been within 10 votes for some time.

It's really going to go all the way to the wire, so if you haven't voted, or know anyone who hasn't and you want to help your guy, better get in touch with them and get them to their computers by midnight tonight. This is going to be a squeaker by the looks of it.

Shama, you're right on.
I'm of the same mind.

It just is pretty discouraging to see this.

I was aware that the thing was being gamed, but didn't know how or why. Your explanation makes perfect sense, though I hadn't given it enough thought to figure it out on my own.

I'm surprised that polls allow votes to count if it can't record a DNS record of an IP address.
It would seem that if they required a valid IP address before they allowed a vote, it would ensure that the count was straight. Would that be possible, or am I off base?

Oh, by the way, for the first poll, I did as you've suggested and compared the visitor count to the total number of votes. I didn't do it exactly, but it seems to line up pretty well.

I haven't done so with this one, and may not bother, as it's plain to anyone that it was gamed.

It's a shame, but .... apparently IF people can cheat, they will.
So that may be the end of polls which seek to judge support for candidates.
Too many unethical people out there.

Shama! You made my day with that comment about Don Johnston and his robo-dialer! hhahahaha!!!
Oh god, that killed me.

I remember seeing him at an event once. He'd stepped out into the lobby and had a cell phone to his ear. I thought to myself, Hmmmmm Must be making another one of those calls.

Gotta love those handy robo-callers. At least you know you don't have to listen to them and don't have to feel guilty hanging up on them.
