New restaurant lounge will try to break downtown Moline curse

In what sounds like a combination restaurant/lounge/catering/audio-visual studio/and lord knows what else, the "Pulse Ultra" (whose name I suppose is a weird take off of the term "plus ultra") is set to open in the old C'est Michele location at 1405 5th Ave., in downtown Moline.

The owners, Joseph Jr. and Alvin Tingle hope to cater to a 25 plus, business oriented clientele. They'll be serving pastries and light breakfast wraps at breakfast, soups, salads, and sandwiches for lunch, and light dinners and pizza bread at dinner, as well as home-made deserts. They feature a 36 foot bar and will have a non-smoking lounge as well as an enclosed smoking section.

Among their seemingly endless plans are a catering hall in the building set to open in June, a subsidiary of Pulse, JT & S Productions, an audiovisual company and a wholesale business selling cakes, cheesecakes and a homemade, family-recipe Bar-B-Que sauce. (No word on a car-wash, beauty salon, or sporting goods store... yet.)

The lounge opened in February and the restaurant has been open about a month. The business already employs 30 people and they hope to add 15 to 20 more.

The Dope wishes them all the best in bucking the somewhat dismal success record of independent bar/restaurants in downtown Moline. Perhaps their diversified approach will allow them to hang on and prosper.
