The Dispatch/Argus wants your input

The Dispatch/Argus is seeking participants for a round-table discussion on how the papers could improve. As they put it:
Do you trust the content in The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus? Are we on the right track in our news coverage? How can we better serve readers?

If you have thoughts on any of these questions, you're a candidate to participate, as our guest, in a special group discussion set for April 27 at The Mark of the Quad Cities.

We're looking for 15-20 Dispatch/Argus readers who'd like to participate in the two-hour roundtable at The Mark. We'll have a one-hour reception with food and drink at 5:30, followed by the roundtable discussion ending at 8:30.

Are you interested? If so, write a quick paragraph about yourself and why you'd make a good roundtable participant. Send it to Russ Scott, Dispatch managing editor, via e-mail (rscott@qconline.com) or by regular mail to 1720 5th Avenue, Moline IL 61265. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number.

We'd like your response by 5 p.m. Monday, April 11. We'll notify you on or about April 19 if you are selected.
I KNOW some of you aren't exactly shy about telling others how to do their jobs, so this seems like the perfect outlet for you. (And free eats to boot!)

So by all means, get in touch with the Dispatch/Argus and share your thoughts on how you feel they could improve their product.

Well citizens, here is your big chance to see if you can affect some change to our Moline/Rock Island news coverage.

Please consider spending some time to help make our Illinois QC newspaper more accountable. If anyone read the entire daily news coverage of the recent municipal elections, that should be enough to spur you into action and make you want to give them your opinions on their editors methods and how they decide to cover news stories in a "fair and unbiased way". I for one was shocked at the way the news was so very one-sided on every front page story the last week or so.

What kind of journalistic training and guidelines were used for some of those stories? I thought the media reported news, not helped one side or the other in an election cycle by spining it one sided like that? Aren't the candidates suppposed to pay for their campaign ads? Or perhaps someone did in some clandestine way and maybe it's never gonna be disclosed..... hmmmmm

Get involved everyone. The paper needs to dump their honorary title of "Daily Disgrace" because that's what it looked like the last 8 days or so to me.

Dope you should go yet keep your identity secret.

Maybe you could then share with the rest of us how a first rate publication like the Dispatch really decides how and when and why to report the news?? Plus it's a free meal and it's open to all - not just the elite of society - so I say put your app in - just don't put your true occupation on the listing - call yourself a "Self-Employed Businessman" and that will get ya in. I bet the Chamber is helpin pick out the 15 lucky people who get free food and a chance to affect change -- if that is even the object here.....

Or better yet, hey can you get a press pass by saying you are a blogger? You know that bloggers are now supposed to be recongnized as new members of the press......

I truly would like to go, or have someone go and report back better yet.
It would no doubt be a great opportunity to tweak their noses for the unprofessionalism that characterizes their paper and website.

But rather than calling on ME to go do it, why don't YOU?

Sadly Dope I am not allowed to participate. Trust me that if I were able to throw my hat in the ring I would but unfortunately, I am part of the class of folks that would be automatically excluded due to who I am......

No one would enjoy givin them a piece of their mind more than me - but I can't do it..... and it's killin me.

I still think a stealth blogger such as yourself would be just what the doctor ordered - participate fully and then let us in on the secrets - PLEASE???

Let us know if they are competing to become the next National Enquirer.

They appear to be lacking in applicants too - the plea appeared again today in the paper - or else the folks they have already hand picked have not yet put in their app?? Who knows - but please - go and use your anonymous persona to get the goods on what goes on there ok?
