So far...
After being in existance for a bit over a month, I'm pleased to anounce that, despite the grumbing from anonymites, The Inside Dope is doing quite well. Traffic to the site has steadily increased and is now pushing an average of 200 individual visitors daily. Thanks to all.
Judging from the snarky comments from some, apparently they've made an assumption that this blog was run by someone who worked at the statehouse or something. They seem to expect me to know everything before it happens, as if I'm the nerve center of Illinois government.
I don't make any money here, I'm not a reporter, I don't have a staff, and I can't see every story from every source on every subject. I've never held this blog out as anything other than what it states in the header and in the F.A.Q., so why they make this assumption, I'm not sure. I'm sorry I don't meet their expectations, but thankfully, there are hundreds more that apparently find the site to be of interest.
As always, I encourage e-mail on how you feel the site could be improved or what you'd like to see here, as well as what you enjoy.

Hey pinhead. If your not Porter than who are you? If you are going to write a blog, identify yourself. If not, your just another ass with an opinion and free web space. Kind of like having a CB radio in the 70's. Useless.
Dope, quit taking things personally. You don't have to write long winded apologies about your lack of staff and your lack of getting all the scoops.
Toughen up, young man, and keep blogging. Your site offers many folks in this region something to read everyday in addition to the River Cities Reader.

And it gives me a small satisfaction to note that those trolls that felt the need to bash the site didn't know how to spell.
I make my fair share of misspellings, but most of the anonymites need to go get a GED.
And things are much more peaceful around here since the troglodytes aren't around. I'm a bit disappointed however that they're not ambitious enough to open an anonymous account with Blogger. They must be paranoid that I'll be able to identify them. (proving that they don't know beans about how this stuff works)
I mean, I already know who they are. They're the idiots that make stupid comments such as "This site isn't relevant." or "Get your facts straight" or "You're a nitwit and no one cares what you think"
Hey, they'd all be valid comments, if they could only manage to expand on them a little. Like, WHY do they think this isn't relevant, What are the facts and how did I get them wrong, and ...well, that last one would be stupid no matter what.
I'll keep plugging away here, but this way I won't have to be constantly putting out brushfires from trolls who don't and can't back up their criticisms.
And after all, I'm not banning them from the site, just requiring them to take a few minutes and register with blogspot, which is actually to their advantage, if they'd only figure it out.
OH, and I just re-read the first comment here. It's one of my faves.
The person obviously has almost zero experience with blogs or the internet in general. He whines that unless I indentify myself, it's just like someone on a CB radio.
3/4 of the entire internet is composed of people talking or giving their opinions, etc. So this guy thinks this blog is somehow different??

And the funny part is that somehow, giving my opinions here anonymously is bullshit in their opinion. But if I did it under my own name, I guess then it would suddenly be fine?
What's the difference? One way the guy doesn't know who to vent his anger at, and the other way he'd have me to focus his anger at?

Yeah, that's a persuesive argument. I really should invite clods like that to personally attack me. Hell, they'd probably come by my house and key my car or otherwise vandalize my property perhaps. And they could start ugly and false rumors about me all over town. Why in the world wouldn't I welcome THAT??

You know, I'm sorry that you don't give a damn about threats being made here. But it's damn important to me, and I feel that others should know about it. I also feel it is of interest to others.
And I am sorry that you don't care about my thoughts on things. But that is one of the purposes of going to the time and trouble of putting the blog up. I have the right to say whatever I want here.
