Election Night notes pt 3

One bright note... Cruella DeVille (Katherine Harris) went down in flames, losing to Bill Nelson roughtly 38 to 60%

See ya. Guess you pushed the payoff for your work for the Bushies in 2000 a bit too far and they threw you under the bus. Couldn't have happened to a better person.

Like TBOGG said, I'd pay to see her concession speech. Wonder if she'll have a full-blown crack-up on stage or manage to hold it together.

JUST IN.... Making this a near perfect night for the Dope, the sleazy self-obsessed blow-hard J.D. Hayworth got his butt handed to him in Arizona's 5th 51-46%. I only pray he doesn't turn up as a pundit, but he no doubt will as he certainly considers himself quite the matinee idol.

10:42 PM

Dems one seat away from majority in the House.

Webb vs Allen in Virginia is going to be a huge mess. Too tight to call, likely recount, unless one or the other concedes.

Ford looks to go down to Corker

With half the vote in for Missouri, McCaskill is trailing Talent by 6 points, 45 to 51%

~~~~~~~~~
10:48PM
Judge Vicki Wright continues to hold her lead over Powers
Trib reports with 1371 of 1591 Precincts Reporting
Wright 212,310 53%
Powers 189,057 47%
Money isn't everything... thank goodness.
10:51 P.M.
MSNBC projecting a 32 seat pickup for Dems in House. CNN has it at 20 and counting.
Can you say "WAVE"..... as in a tidal wave for Dems, and wave bye-bye for Republicans?
~~~~~
11:02 P.M.

Amazingly, Braley is whomping on Whalen (good call bringing in Cheney, eh?)
With 71% in, CNN has Braley 56%, Whalen 43%

And more good news in Iowa, with 69% in, Nussle trails Culver 44% to 55%

With 73% in, Topinka creeping up on Blago, 40% to 49%

With 78% in, Tammy Duckworth is losing by a tiny margin, 49% to 51%. Hope she pulls through, but she's trailed all night by a small margin.

With 88%, Ford is still battling Corker in Tennesee and closing the gap, 48% to 51%

BIG shocker in Virginia, Webb has just took lead for first time in the entire night, with 99% reporting, CNN has Webb at 50%, Allen at 49%. The numbers were reversed only a half hour ago.

~~~~~~~~~
LEACH GETS CAUGHT IN TSUNAMI!
CNN reports with 72% of vote in that long time incumbant Jim Leach is running behind Dem challenger Dave Loebsack 49 to 51% with a 4000 vote margin. Amazing!
I'm all junkied out on the VA Senate race.
Looking at the data at 10:50pm CST, Allen is winning by 3163 votes. It will close, based on the precincts left. I think Webb will carry 53 of the remaining 57 precincts, but with big margins only in about 6 of those. Definitely will be tight, but looks like Allen will fall just short. Not sure how the absentee ballots figure in, but we're sure to have a Commonwealth-funded recount.
Okay, just changed my mind based on some number crunching. Webb will come out on top by 600-750 votes.
How you like them drapes, George?
Freaking awesome. I'm loving my adoptive home state tonight.
Kudos to Culver, Braley, Loebsack (who the hell saw *that* coming?) and my personal favorite, Elesha Gayman.
Hope you're right Huck...
Just put up numbers from CNN that shows Webb squeaking ahead for first time in the night with 99% reporting. But still too close to call.
Something tells me we won't know the winner there for some time.
Just heard 33000 votes left to count from Fairfax County. that should add 6300 or so more votes to Webb's lead. Guess we'll see in the AM, and probably not know the final until the 28th (if they have overseas absentees to count).
Conservative Demo here:
Good news from all over this late night.
Blago was very gracious in his comments about Topinks earlier.
I regret the loss by Jim Leach. He has quiet class and dignity while his intellect outshines that of his detractors and his sense of honor remains head-and-shoulders above the rest of his party.
Zinga still has nice legs.
HA!! OK, OK, in the spirit of victory... I'll give you that she's got nice legs. Now they can walk her back home.
I thought I was the only person in the world who pined for the demise of smug, fatfaced, J.D. Hayworth. It just never appeared to this gasbag that there was even a competing set of view out there.
Earth to JD: the beginning of time was not 1994. Just go guard the border fence that'll never be built. Nighty, Night.
