Let the Eagle Soarrrrrrrrrr


Here's a shot taken yesterday of an eagle soaring over the hills of Rock Island's Longview Park.

I don't know about you, but to me, that can only mean one thing. It's time once again to kick back and dig the tragi-comic lounge stylings of Johnny A.

Yeah Winding. For some reason, I couldn't get the damn bird to come soar about 20 feet directly over me and hold still. Doesn't that suck?

Actually, I didn't use digital zoom for this shot and rarely if ever do.

But since I'd just turned around and shot the picture quickly, the bird was a speck in the original.

So I took the liberty of cropping and enlarging it so you, the appreciative public, could better see it.

As an aside, another helpful reader has written in saying it's not an eagle but a turkey buzzard. The reader says they live near Longview and see the buzzards often.

I'd seen several turkey buzzards wheeling over a cow carcass in a valley below when I was in a pasture on a very steep and tall bluff near Albany, IL a few years agao.

I'd even posted a picture of one here.
