Poll results discussion, part deux

Here's a nice clean slate to offer your thoughts or opinion on the Rumler/Jacobs poll. Comments from the usual gang of cretins will be sumarily dumped, or at least moved to the thread below with the others so the rest of you can comment unmolested.

Maybe the subject's played out already, but if you have any thoughts on the matter, here's the place.

I think the poll was an accurate reflection of those who participate in the world of blogging. Now Mr. Rumler must transition the momentum from an on line poll, into a real campaign and a GOTV this spring.

On another subject, I would like to commed Senator Jacobs for his stance against un-funded mandates at the recent Municipal League gathering. As a local elected official, I struggle with how my village, city, or town, can possibly do all the state, and the federal government require of us. Nice points Senator, and kudos points Mr. Rumler on gathering some speed nn his campaign. Looks like it could be a race come March.

Now that's a breath of fresh air. A reasonable comment. Thanks!

I think the race will of course hinge on Rumler getting enough free media that he can even begin to compete with Jacobs' enormous name recognition and campaign cash as well as other factors.

But at some point, Rumler is going to have to start articulating what he's about and why he's the better candidate. It's never too soon to at least try to show up on the public's radar screen.

Jacobs on the other hand, is obviously having difficulty adjusting to his role as senator. It can't be easy stepping into such huge shoes as those of his near-legendary father's, and I think it would be a mistake for him to even try to be Denny II. So far, he's trying far too hard and coming across as phoney as a $3 bill to many. This "empty suit" quality needs to be minmized and a bit of justified humility would go a long way towards that.

While Denny's "candidness" earned him respect, grudging or otherwise, from many, it's a high wire act to speak too freely and takes a finely honed instinct that usually comes only after years of experience.

Mike has tried to be "plain spoken" and has demonstrated that he doesn't quite have a good grasp on the fact that he's now a state senator and it requires at least some degree of sensitivity and awareness before speaking too freely in public.

It's easy to say, but there's a degree of truth to it, that this race is Mike's to lose.

After being put through the baptism by fire and finding out what it's like to be a public figure, and with as tough a time as he's had with it, there's always the chance that he'll find that enduring the kind of stress, pressure, and fear that comes with that kind of life is not what he's cut out for. After all, he'd surely be able to snag a high-paying lobbyist position or something equally lucrative without having his every move and misstep played out in public.

But no matter how it plays out, it certainly will be of interest to us armchair political junkies.

Though you made it clear that this poll wasn't "scientific" and shouldn't be read as a good indicator of voter feelings, I still think it's important.

But just taking it for what it is, it's revealing. The fact that Rumler could beat Jacobs like a drum, even on an online poll, is a sign that their campaign certainly has some life to it.

Where were the Jacobs supporters? Sitting on their hands? Or did some of them vote for Rumler?

The disturbing comments left by the Jacobs in the post below really compound the damage, in my opinion. But they also show that the Jacobs supporters were clearly interested in the poll and are driven out of their minds by the fact they got trounced.

It might mean nothing as far as the actual election results go, after all, Jacobs seems to be more proud of all the money he's raised than anything he's actually done, but the poll is pretty amazing.

Thanks for running it.

I agree with Mark, it appears that Rumler's campaign does have legs, at least in Moline, where I live. There is a fair amount of buzz surrounding this race, and most that I talk to seem to prefer Rumler. Again, I live in Moline, so it may be different elsewhere. I'm sure Jacobs would carry most of the vote from East Moline, but the outlying areas might fall into Rumler's lap due to Jacobs' Hog Plant proposal. I imagine that the people from smaller towns could be concerned that a Hog Plant, or some other smelly facility, could pop up in their back yard.

NOTE:
I've moved 11 crazed comments from Jacobs or whoever to the thread below. Most were left in a sort of frenzy at the rate of one a minute.

County Demo,

Just what is it that you're not getting?

The poll wasn't scientfic.. OK, I think we get it. I pointed that out numerous times and never suggested it was.

I offered what I got from the poll, and what I thought it might imply. I stand by those, as they're rational conjecture based on the results and were not stated as though it were fact.

Get a grip, accept the fact that Jacobs got his ass handed to him in this online poll, and move on. Your frenzied attacks on it makes you look dim-witted and desperate.

And you keep posting (and misspelling) that quote you lifted from some book or something without acknowledging that no one has ever so much as suggested that this poll is an absolute representation of the preferences of anyone other than the people who came here and voted.

Why do you keep endlessly pointing out what I pointed out clearly in the post itself? We all know it's not some big poll of thousands of Dem voters in the district.. OK??

As to your suggestion that it shows personal bias by me, that's simply non-sense.

I've not manipulated "the date" or anything else as is clear to everyone but you apparently, so please give it a rest.

Unless you can offer something new or at least factual here, please deposit your comments along with the rest in the thread below.

Dope, you need to just delete all the non-sense from the Jacobs. Or maybe just put them all in one place for people to see.

This is ridiculous.

Sometime if I have the stomach for it, I should go back and compile all the literally hundreds of posts from Jacobs and/or whoever else it is that posts the identical type of idiocy we've all had to deal with. I've got every single one of 'em.

I could just put them all up on a few web pages and have them there for people to read. It would really be impressive, I'm sure.

Good idea.

And by the way, they're still at it with their juvenile attacks. I've had to trash about a half dozen of their comments that are so ridiculous that they don't even have any laugh value.

Their latest fever dream smear attempt? Trying to suggest that Paul Rumler has insulted Lane Evans and should apologize.

Where'd THAT come from? Somewhere inside their head... which must be a scary, scary place.

Such a collection would be like a walk down a twisted memory lane.

For instance, here's one of the first comments he left. Kind of violent and weird from the get-go.

"The last thing Boland wants is to be remembered as, "the only politican in Illinois' history to get beat by Denny and Mike Jacobs."

If I was Mike Boland, I would accept young Mike Jacobs' offer and bury the political hatchet. If not, old Mike Boland may find that "hatchet" stuck in his skull!

Boland should grow-up, control his anger, and learn to work with others."

Highxlr8r,

I understand that you cannot assume that Rumler would win the election with 80Z% of the votes, but I do believe that it is telling that Jacobs only amassed a dozen or so votes. Now, the poll certainly wasn't perfect, but I do think that you can extrapolate some things from it. First, Rumler has a strong following of people with an interest in blogs, etc. Secondly, judging from his response, Jacobs felt that the poll meant something. He immediately started posting suggesting collusion, cheating, and bias on the Dope's part.

Now, I realize that you cannot translate the poll votes into actual votes, but I think it would be foolish to completely write it off as useless. This poll suggests that, if a "real" poll had been taken, Rumler would have as much or more support than Jacobs.

That is just my opinion, but, to me, the results were too lopsided to be written off.

I just recieved literally about the 15th comment using almost identical language which this person has cribbed from a polling text.
All it says is that the poll I ran is not scientifically precise and can't be used to accurately predict the feelings of ... well, I've explained this all so many damn times now I'm not even going to bother.

For the love of all things holy, please stop posting the same damn thing over and over. You're only making a point which I made in the original post and I'm not going to publish any more of them. OK?

We get it. The poll can't be considered an accurate reflection of Democratic primary voters in the 36th district. OK OK OK!!!!

WE GET IT.

But you're not posting anything new, so don't bother.
