Kinky for Governor: Why the Hell Not?

The title of this post is one of Kinky Friedman's campaign slogans, the other one is "How Hard Could It Be?", appropriate in light of the fact that Kinky is running for the spot once occupied by George W. Bush: Governor of Texas.

Here's Kinky with the First Lady, whom he's pals with. (below... not the one above!)

And here's one that's just plain strange. Kinky, Will Smith, and President Clinton.

I've enjoyed Kinky (whose band is called "The Texas Jewboys") for some time now, from his seminal hit, "Asshole from El Paso", through other timeless tunes such as "Old Man Lucas". He's also an excellent writer having written several well-received and best selling mysterys.

Click here and here to listen to Kinky speak.

The New Yorker recently published a great piece on the Kinkster and his run for Governor which has gathered a lot of momentum. It's a great read.

The Kinkster's official campaign site can be found here. Be sure to check out the merchandise site and the mulimedia page with some interesting video.

Anyone who ends his speeches with "May the God of your choice bless you." is alright with me. Vote Kinky!

I do believe that Toby Keith should go down there and help out Kinky with a fundraiser!

He likes to sing and help politicans doesn't he? He rhymes a lot about how great the war is and how great Bush is - and since this guy Kinky may have a kindrid spirit and all - comin from Texas and wearin boots and a cowboy hat... well it doesn't get much better than that.

How about it Toby? Why dontcha help out a fellow cowpoke??

Dope, Kinky has some interesting ideas about alternative fuel esp being from Texas (oil country) and all.

But exactly what is the Gov Bug??

THE GOV BUG!! That's something I don't want to spoil. There's got to be a picture of it somewhere on Kinky's campaign site. Check out the photos page.

As a matter of fact, it's so cool I should post it.

Rather than post it, I'll provide a link. Just click here and you'll see a picture of the Gov Bug in all it's splendor.

They had a contest to name this unique campaign vehicle which was created by an Austin artist and Kinky fan. The Gov Bug is explained in this press release entitled, "The Gov Bug, Exciting and New".
