Going's On

Since this blog's inception, I've called for party organizations, campaigns, candidates, or groups to send me any announcements, invitations, or anything else they wish to publicize. I've issued several pleas, and had an open invitation for submissions in the sidebar until it became apparent that no one was interested in this.

To my dismay and surprise, no one's taken advantage of it until now.

If enough people take advantage of this opportunity, I'll create a page dedicated to current events and announcements and link to it from this page.

Today's head's up is:

Sen. Mike Jacobs will be hosting a fundraising reception at Johnny's Italian Steakhouse, 1300 River Drive Moline, at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23rd.

As the announcement states,
"The public is invited to attend, at $40 per person, and tickets will be available at the door. There will be heavy hors d’oevres, raffles for several prizes and a cash bar.

The new state senator is carrying on a successful tradition started by his father, former State Sen. Denny Jacobs, who hosted an annual community event at Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse for several years.

"This is intended to be a fun family event and we welcome folks from throughout the 36th District to this reception," said Sen. Mike Jacobs.
For further info, contact: J.P. Jacobs @ 309/230-1695.

Reopening the Pharmacy
My father's father was a pharmacist. He had a small pharmacy and soda fountain in Collingswood New Jersey.
Wondereful info! You have a great blog here! I'm definitely going to bookmark you!

I have a ejaculation control blog. It pretty much covers ejaculation control related stuff.

Come and check it out if you get time :-)

Thanks for posting info about Sen. Jacobs' reception. That sounds like a lot of fun for my wife and I. We'll be there!

Dope,

Why don't other candidates send you info to publicize about their events? I think that's what's lacking about our RI County Democratic Party. We never really know what's going on. Thanks for posting this Jacobs' event. We plan to attend because I hear this is a fun event.

Other candidates: where are you?
when are your events?

Come on, get with it.

The Rock Island County Democratic Party's annual Labor Day Picnic at Illiniwek Park begins around noon on Monday, September 5, Labor Day.

Invited guests include: Iowa Sec of State Chet Culver, Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, Illinois Senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama, Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and more.

This event proves that although national labor leaders may be divided, labor folks in this region are very much united behind progressive Democrats in both Iowa and Illinois.

I've attended the Jacobs party at Johnny's for the past three years and it is a blast. Great food, good drinks, good music -- this is a real party. Glad to hear the tradition at Johnny's continues.

Yes the tradition of lavish food and drink and butt kissing will continue!
40 bucks?! That seems like a lot of money for out of work Democrats to be paying. I'll bet there will be more Republicans than Democrats at this cattillion!!
I probably spelled that wrong.

BREAKING NEWS FROM THE NATIONAL DEMOCRAT PARTY...

Today Howard Dean warned Democrat voters that the National Republican Party has bankrolled regional blogs in California, New York, Illinois. The stated goal of the Republican controlled blogs is to undermind Democrats and turn "Blue" states "Red."

Be carefull of theinsidedope.blogspot. as it looks to be one of the blogs the National Democrat Party warned us about!

That's the whole idea behind what the Reblicans are doing Diehard!

Right-wing fanatics posing as Democrat's are running regional blogs. These Republicans pose as Democrates and attempt to divide and conquer the Democrat base.

Watch theinsidedope.blogspot, as this site has been identified as a possible National Repubican blog!

By who? Besides raving paranoids with conspiracy theories dancing in their fevered heads?

What does this say about the precarious nature of these commenters (who apparently are huge Jacobs supporters) mental state?

Are they so divorced from reality that they think that inter party disagreements and squabbles would never exist if it wasn't for some boogy-man from D.C. creating a blog?

Why would they rule out the simple fact that these things really DO EXIST and that it would show up on any blog that allows open dialog?

Sure, this could be a one-way blog. I could just post press releases and not allow discussion or more importantly, I could forbid any dissention from every appearing.

That to me is not the idea of a blog. This blog is not run by the Democratic party, or any party at all, and I happen to think that's a good thing.

If politicians or their supporters find it inconvenient and it gets them in a lather from time to time, then that's their problem, not mine.

I don't run this thing with the idea of keeping them happy at all times.

And I don't have any control over the views of people who visit the site and comment.

If they hate some comments here, then they need to take it up with the commenter. I have no desire to try to censor legitimate comment.

I've tried to warn people when they've been out of line. If they then insist on ignoring my suggestions, then they can't then come here and complain that they don't like what they're seeing.

The fact remains that the party doing the most bitching, the Jacobs supporters, continue to come here and post nearly insane spin and continually provoke those who disagree with them.

They then suddenly whine and complain that things get ugly and the subject won't die. Well, it's because you never shut up, and you rarely make straight, informative, civil comments. That shouldn't be too tough to figure out.

The other side in this arguing is also over the top and needs to know when to shut up. It's gotten to the point where both sides are out of line.

But I find it pretty amusing that they'd try to suggest that this is some nefarious plot cooked up by Karl Rove in top RNC meetings.

That shows A. That they're consumed with irrational fear and paranoia, and B. That they have an incredibly overblown idea of their own importance in the scheme of things.

But I will give HeadUsher and his ilk credit. I tolerate a lot of abuse, and I've been called many things, but the worst anyone could accuse me of is of being a Republican. Them's fighting words.

Jacobs is not the only person who has been attacked on this blog by name and YES you do have control over the posting of defamatory remarks and you CAN take control of your role in perpetuating the defamation.
Others mentioned by name are NOT public officials and the standard for defamation is much lower.

Just like you can remove spam comments, you should also actively remove other offensive comments, but instead you have chosen to not only allow them to remain, but you often incite further commentary. The newspaper does not print names in Speak Out(because they understand their liability in facilitating defamation) and the dope needs to step up and hope her secret identity is not revealed on a subpoena. That goes to diehard and maybesomeday as well who seem to be the biggest offenders of all that is good on this site.

I don't recall headusher throwing insults to anyone by name, but if I try to defend them I will be accused of being an alter ego. So i will have to post this anonymously to avoid the wrath of the bullies on this site.

Ok Mike Jacobs - maybe when the records get revealed we will see exactly what posts you have put on here that are inappropriate as heck.

Think about that as you blog anon many a day.....

Anon 5:38.

I appreciate your views. But you know, this is about expected from people who have absolutely no clue about blogging or the law but who are flailing about for a way to silence speech.

There are literally millions of blogs out there which operate exactly in the same manner as mine without any legal harrassment.

There is even a word for this sort of legal harrassment, SLAPP, for Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation. There's currently several states who have or are enacting anti-SLAPP laws to protect people from such harrassment.

I recall one thin-skinned conservative who tried to intimidate a blog by having their attorney's write the person who put up the blog a theatening letter.

The entire "blogophere" of thousands of blogs and their millions of readers immediately sprang to this blogger's defense, complete with top lawyers offering pro bono representation and thousands of dollars of donations flooding in for their defense.

If you feel legal actions are justified here, I suggest you do a bit of looking around and some research.

I could try to go back and review comments made here, though since they number in the thousands, I don't think I'll bother.

If you have examples of where private citizens have been libeled or maligned here, please bring it to my attention. I don't recall this ever being the case. Feel free to e-mail me as this would be the best way to deal with it.

I can't research the validity of each of the thousands of comments here. How am I to psychically devine whether a comment is factual or not? And the fact remains that there are no doubt many comments which I simply overlook and have never read.

Also, comments are often opinions with no true or false about them. Are you saying I have to police the validity of other people's opinions? That's preposterous. If someone says so-and-so is dumb, am I supposed to make a judgement call on that? Maybe they are, maybe they aren't, but it's the commenter's opinion, so let them be held accountable for it. I'm certainly not.

I don't need to point out for about the 20th time that everyone is free to rebut or argue the comments of others here. So where's the damage?

If you're suggesting that I can somehow be held liable for the comments, feelings, or opinions of other people, let alone people whom I have no idea who they even are, I think you're sadly off the mark. See Section 230 of the Federal Code.

Are you liable for the statements, views, or opinions of others? If you owned a McDonalds, say, could I sue you because someone who goes through your drive-thru, who of course you don't know and are no way responsible for, says something I don't like about me?

Time for a little reality check here, I'd suggest.

Once again I point out that my prediction that small people would end up attacking the messenger for simply engaging in an activity done by literally millions of others, namely putting up a blog where people are allowed to speak, is coming true. It's ugly, small minded, vengeful, silly, misguided, and extremely disappointing.

And I'd like to point out as well to anon above that HeadUsher has routinely smeared and demeaned other political figures. I don't recall them mentioning any so-called private citizens by name though. But I don't recall anyone else doing so either.

Which brings me to again asking anyone to please point out any instances where someone has mentioned any private citizens by name in comments or posts on this blog.

I'd like to see if anon's allegations are valid or as I believe, simply imagined.

Thanks.

At the risk of wasting too much time on this, I'd like to point out to Anon above that it's my JOB to "incite" further comment here.

I welcome comments and want to encourage them as much as possible.

That's the reason I decided to try again to open this to all commenters rather than just registered users.

If you don't like the tone or tenor of comments, then I suggest you and others contribute your own thoughts and establish a more thoughtful and civil tone.

It's up to you.

But don't call for me to A. delete comments which some people might not agree with (including myself), or B. Stop trying to encourage people to comment.

So, this is one of those Blog site inspired by Karl Rove and George W. Bush. Let me tell you, no matter how much dirt you throw at Democrats like Lane Evans, Mike Jacobs, Pat Verschoore and Mike Boland their accomlishment shine through!

While I do not discourage Democrats from posting here, I want you to be aware that the INSIDEDOPE is full fledged memeber of the National Republican and is not to be trusted!
