Personal note...
The person who sent the e-mail in question has recanted and apologized. The Dope appreciates this and is glad they have realized that they were in error and the injustice they may have caused had they followed through with their threat against an innocent person. (Not to mention the fact that they'd look like a total fool if they had.) I'd also like to clarify that this was not a threat to do physical harm of any kind.
In fairness I should mention that they denied making any threat. But the fact remains that they did, though not against The Dope, but against the person they mistakenly believed puts up this site.
It was unfortunate and hopefully will not happen again.
But it reveals just how crazy it makes some people to not have someone to pin this site on. They truly lose their ability to think rationally and do and say incredibly rash and thoughtless things, to say the least. This has been a real relevation to The Dope, and it's not that pretty at all.

Dope, I'm sorry you were threatened.
It ties into a post at Blogging Blagojevich's Blunders.
Since bloggers are both media figures and organizers they will be targeted by political violence too.
It's very disturbing to uncover the level of fear and paranoia out there. I find it amazing that a simple blog that deals with various issues can dredge up such ugliness.
But I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
I'm happy to report that the person that contacted the Dope with threats against someone he believed the Dope to be has since written back and admitted they were wrong and apologized.
I can only hope they finally realized how irresponsible and potentially harmful their threats could have been. I thank them for being smart enough to realize that they were on the wrong track.
And the Dope should point out that the threats within the anonymous email weren't physical threats. The writer was just a bit confused about who ran this site and threatened to use my material against another person. Needless to say, this was of great concern to me. Since they were convinced that they knew who The Dope was, and since they were flat wrong, as usual, it had the potential to get very ugly should they carry through on their threat.
The Dope is naturally concerned that my work would erroneously be used to try to harm someone else, no matter who. Who would want that?
I'm glad the person who wrote it has apparently seen the light.
And leave that poor Richard Simmon alone. Not everyone can wear short shorts all the time and get away with it. That alone should count for something, though I'm not sure what.
Drama?? You know, these sorts of comments are madddeningly vague.
What the hell do you consider my "work" that I'm supposed to worry more about?
Why is this threat unimportant? You think exposing a threat against an innocent person is nothing more than "drama"?
I think the site is dull enough as it is. Yet you seem to want it to be even more dry and lifeless.
You're the sort that doesn't want any "controversy" to errupt, correct? Worried sick that it might cause some "drama" in your own life?
Thanks for the advise, but my "work" is going just fine.
Empty complaints here ARE an issue. Can you comprehend that?
I'm sorry if my defending myself offends you. But I'd suggest that you get over it. Because I'm not going to sit here mute while people make dumb comments like yours.
Why you think I should just sit here and allow you to take shots at me and the site without expecting you to explain yourself is beyond me. Complainging about "drama" doesn't quite cut it.
Until you can tell me why I can't respond to critics, don't bother with your snappy one liners.
I've got a good reason to be pissed. I wish someone would at least acknowledge that. But I will agree with you that responding seems to only encourage more of the same sort of drivel.
No doubt about it, I gotta fix the screens in this place.
