Election Day

Go out and vote, then come back and tell us who you voted for and why.

Who's going to win? Who's going to get trounced?

Will this election set all time records for low turnout?

Well, I was involved in the 7th Ward Moline elections. Dorothy Armstorng ran unopposed so I am guessing she'll pull off the victory...

She wasn't the reason I voted though. I voted for Kieth Karstens for the Moline School District. Having been active in fine arts at Moline as recently as two years ago, I can tell you that we need a board member that cares more about the kids than the bottom line. Also, I voted for my Superientdent Ben McAdams, Moline has gone to hell since Cal Lee has taken over.

Lastly, I voted for the only BHC board trustee that wasn't an incumbent, because both Trustees up for reelection have refused to act on the simple issue of changing the name of the "Braves" and the "Chieftain"... The BHC board again is not looking out for the students.

I am alittle upset in the lack of good candidates in my election. I wish I could have run for BHC or for even the alderman spot, it would have been a long shot a 20 year old alderman, but I think people need a choice... I would of enjoyed serving, to bad I am leaving for Springfield in four months.

Well Donald Junior, maybe when you gain a little maturity, you will decide to run for public office.

I voted for Donna Jungwirth in the Rock Island City Council vote. She has good experience and may provide some check on the Schwiebert cult of personality. Not looking for the dysfunction in Davenport, but some discussion would be refreshing.

Craig, do you really find the name of the Black Hawk mascot to be the biggest issue facing the college? What about appropriate funding, quality profs or a robust curriculum? I am not necessarily against changing the name, just wondering how it can in any way reflect “the board looking out for the students”.

I hate to fall into the cliche of sticking up for the little brother, but the kid shows more maturity than most people on this board and most of the people I know. When he runs, for anything, he has my full support.

I guess it's out now, my first name is Donald. Also, I find it funny that my maturity is being challenged by someone that anonymously wrote into a blog...

IlliniDem- I don't find that the single most important issue facing Black Hawk. What it does show though, is a lack of interest in the board for any issue brought forth by the students. In the July minutes Board Chair Fred Legget was quotes as saying "constuctive procrastination" will make this issue go away. They need to address issues of concern for the students. The resolution to change the name was brought to the SGA and Faculty Senate by the Sauk Fox tribe, and deserves more that those comments.
