Who is James M. Beals?
A Republican named James M. Beals has announced his candidacy for 36th District State Senator and will challenge the winner of Wednesday's Dem primary. Since the conventional wisdom is that Jacobs will prevail in that contest, if that comes to pass, Beals will then be the one facing Jacobs in the general election.
But who is Beals? I could find no campaign website, and a search on his name turns up a James M. Beal who was sentenced to jail in Michigan for throwing the unique mixture of porcupine feces and worms on his former co-workers.
Something tells me that this isn't the guy in question. It would be quite a trick to parlay that into a state senate campaign.
It's reported that Beals has worked for Deere, General Electric, and the Arsenal, went to UTHS in East Moline and attended West Point Military Accademy. Apparently the only political position he's ever held is Republican precinct committeeman.
What's the skinny on this guy?

Although I don't know first hand, I can only tell you what my fellow Republican officials tell me in the county. They tell me he's a bit odd, very secretive (maybe the military background), very cocky and not experiened enough to run for such a high-level office. I'll meet him at one of our GOP precinct meetings soon, though, and report back.
Thanks for the info/opinion, but you really don't need to go to the length of pretending to be a Republican. It's phoney as hell and kind of wrecks an othewise OK comment.
the first anonymous post is right on target!
I have heard from several Democrats that U.S. Rep. Lane Evans gave him a scholarship to the West Point Naval Academy and that his parents are all Democrats.
Go figure. Maybe he's one of these young ditto heads, that forgot who helped pave his way in life?
Isn't it Beals? I know he had his jaw wired shut for a while here recently. Hasn't made much noise (literally and figuratively).
Anon 19:11 is right on the money. This is one of the weirdest guys I've ever met. He also claims that his dogs are married. Many people think he made up the story about going to West Point.

I have met James Beals. Don't know if I would really call it a pleasure, it was definitely interesting. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was claiming to be a secret agent. My personal opinion is that he is one strangest people I've ever met. The one thing I do know is that no matter who wins the Dem primary I will not be voting for James Beal.
West Point was not made up.
He graduated in 1993 though he's designated his entry on this page as available to be viewed by West Point grads only.
From what I have heard about him from Deere co-workers, he probably is the guy who threw worms and crap at his co-workers...
I think it really doesn't do it justice to slide by with just calling it crap.
It's PORCUPINE crap, for God's sake. There's the beauty part.
To omit that detail is almost a sin.
From what I remember, he was the guy who was too stupid to file his paperwork correctly to even get on the ballot for Moline Alderman so that's why he did a write in campaign which the Dispatch bent over backwards to accomdate for the guy -- go figure? Wonder if he had any better luck with this filing?
He also said his job was to "highly classified" to be discussed when a reporter questioned him about it.
Sounds like a nut ball to me.
Jim Beals took a free government scholarship from Congressman Lane Evans and then turned around wrote a nasty letter to the editor about Lane and endorsed his politcal opponent Andre Zinga.
How is that for gratitude?
