Lieberman trying to stay relevant

Five years ago, Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman was one of President Bush's arch political rivals. Now many in his party complain that he sounds more like Bush's running mate.
According to a commenter, only freaks, Nazis, and radical extremists would ever hold that view.

Seems that there must be a lot of them, as both the Washington Post and the NY Times cover the outrage over his ridiculous attempt to promote himself at the expense of the party.

Joe's 100% pro-choice, pro-women voting record doesn't get coverage. Joe's rock-solid pro-environmental record doesn't get coverage. Joe's life-long progressivism on a whole host of issues doesn't get covered.

Only his positions on Iraq - leave it to the media to try to pigeon hole a guy's lifetime of progressivism into one issue, one year, pretty pathetic. He's a decent guy, overall, when you look at this entire voting record and career. He's been good.

Whether he truly believes in the cause or he is whoring himself to the right (I suspect the latter), Lieberman is entitled to his opinion on Iraq and is very much entitled to vote away from his party if he wants to on the subject. This happens all of the time.

What I have a problem with is not how he votes but his insistence to "call out" his party because they do not share his (minority) opinion. And when he does this he undermines everything his party stands for, which includes abortion rights and the environment.

I hear Joe is whoring himself to Bush so he can have Rumsfeld's job early next year. If that's true then it is even worse - he is compromising his own party for the opportunity to be micromanaged by Cheney. Yay.
