More Chicken Soup for the Bush Hater's Soul

Good stuff from the Trib from Jimmy Greenfield:
If you despise President Bush, as I do, and can't wait for the day he's out of office, not to worry. There are only 1,174 days remaining on his term.

That's 28,176 hours, 1,690,560 minutes and, give or take, 101,433,600 seconds.

That's all.

So, if you view Jan. 20, 2009, the day Bush's successor as president will be sworn in, as a national day of celebration, just realize that it won't be here for quite a while. A lot more damage can be done.

I find it comforting, but in a grotesque sort of way, that Bush can't do any worse over the next three years than he did the past three, when he destroyed America's reputation around the globe by starting, supporting and refusing to end a war brought forth on false pretenses, leading to the deaths of more than 2,000 U.S. soldiers. So far.

I'm encouraged that a majority of Americans now disapproves of the job Bush is doing. An Associated Press poll released Thursday put his approval rating at 37 percent, and his disapproval rating at 59 percent. Just how many see him as an incompetent boob, as I do, isn't clear.

Yeah, I know those are harsh words for a president, but that's how I see it.

I think it's all but certain that this will go down as one of the most disasterous administrations in our country's history, and Bush, one of the worst, if not THE worst president.

Of course, documenting that history will be made next to impossible by the many behind the scenes presidential directives and other measures Bush has taken to ensure that most of the documents from this White House, as well as his terms as TX governor, will never see the light of day.

In yet another sign that this administration holds the American people in contempt, by all accounts, it is the most secretive administration in history, FAR more secretive than even the Nixon administration.

Bush moved to alter long established rules governing the release of presidential papers soon after being elected, making it next to impossible to gain access to them, even decades into the future, or ever, for that matter.

He changed the rules so that not only the president who's records are sought has to OK the release, but so does the sitting president!

This has resulted in Bush releasing records from the Clinton administration for political purposes, yet has made it impossible to gain access to even Reagan records. He's also moved all records of his term as TX governor into his Daddy's presidential library and where they are held in complete secrecy.
