Obama post at Daily Kos

Barack Obama has posted a "diary" or blog entry at one of the premier liberal blogs, The Daily Kos. In it, he lays out some interesting perspectives on how he sees the political landscape and the Democrat's position in it.
The bottom line is that our job is harder than the conservatives' job. After all, it's easy to articulate a belligerent foreign policy based solely on unilateral military action, a policy that sounds tough and acts dumb; it's harder to craft a foreign policy that's tough and smart. It's easy to dismantle government safety nets; it's harder to transform those safety nets so that they work for people and can be paid for. It's easy to embrace a theological absolutism; it's harder to find the right balance between the legitimate role of faith in our lives and the demands of our civic religion. But that's our job. And I firmly believe that whenever we exaggerate or demonize, or oversimplify or overstate our case, we lose. Whenever we dumb down the political debate, we lose. A polarized electorate that is turned off of politics, and easily dismisses both parties because of the nasty, dishonest tone of the debate, works perfectly well for those who seek to chip away at the very idea of government because, in the end, a cynical electorate is a selfish electorate.

Barack Obama is without a doubt, the greatest public servant I have ever come across in my lifetime.

This post of his should be required reading for all of us on the left.

Inside Dope,
You are doing a great job! I have not commented on many of your recent posts because what you said was so right on that it left me nothing to add. Keep up the good work.

Headusher,

Thanks for the well-meaning advise.
But most of it is wrong and goofy as usual. Your death wish for the blog is a bit premature, as it logged 286 individual visits yesterday alone, and has passed the 30,000 viewer mark.

Just how do you think a blog "dies"? This isn't a for-profit deal. It won't "die" if it doesn't get enough viewers, nor does it matter a bit if there's thousands of comments or none (though of course the more the merrier). It won't "die" until I stop doing it, and with all due respect, that's my call, not yours.

And thanks for your helpful advise that I should agree with my critics. Sorry I haven't done that enough for your tastes.

As to your suggestion that this isn't bi-partisan enough, again, sorry you don't like the fact that I have a viewpoint. If people express their opposing views here and get taken to task for them, is that unfair? That's called arguement and debate.

I don't ban opposing viewpoints here. So that suggestion is simply false on it's face.

I don't think there's some rule that people who offer opposing views are somehow immune from having them debunked or disputed, and needless to say, readers are free to offer their own comments.

And please, I'd caution you to not try to make me responsible, or even in agreement, with comments made by others here. I'm responsible for my comments and posts only.

It's pretty egotistical to assume that everyone else shares your peculiar opinion, though your ego is obviously bloated beyond measure. Maybe you're just surrounded by butt-kissers? Or maybe you think everything here should be business as usual with nothing but meaningless PR fluff designed by the candidate or pol with the express purpose to exagerate, inflate, or as occasionaly in your case, invent, their supposed accomplishments?

I'm more than happy to report what a politician is doing or accomplishing for the people of this area. I've asked over and over again for people to send in any announcements they'd like publicized. I'm not going to continue begging people to let me know about it.

Evidently local pols don't have a lot to crow about, at least that the press is aware of. And I think it's safe to assume that if any pol does anything that's even remotely capable of being spun as something positive, they'll surely let the press know about it. I'd be happy to post their kudos here, if there were any kudos to post.

You've not contributed one whit to this blog as far as new information, nor have you ever sent anything to me for posting. That's fine, but if you complain that there's not enough positive things about politicians here, you're certainly not doing a thing to inform us otherwise.

Your statement that no one cares about anything but Mike Jacobs says it all. Sad, in a way, as it's obviously YOU who cares about nothing but Mike Jacobs.

The problem is not with this blog my friend. Continue your self-obsessed stupidity at your own peril.

Here's my advise to you. I'll do the blogging, for better or worse, and you stick to shilling for Mike Jacobs. Deal?

HU, I also think it's pretty ballsy to criticize me for my reaction to critics, when you resorted to wildly insane attempts to smear me and making ridiculous and vile threats, all in reaction to my criticism here. That's rich.

My mom passed away earlier this year after a long battle with cancer. Thanks for the witty comment, asshole.

You've absolutely lost your mind.

You complain that this blog isn't a forum for the exchange of ideas. I've posted on hundreds of issues affecting the state and the area, as well as the nation, yet you have never offered any comment or contribution on any issue whatsoever, just insane blather and bullshit about Mike Jacobs.

If you're not Mike Jacobs himself, then you're extremely close to him. Doesn't Mike have any views, ideas, or positions whatsoever? Don't you have anything to contribute at all to the exchange of ideas you say the site lacks?

For instance, thanks for your intelligent comments on Obama's views. We can all see your contribution to the "exchange of ideas" on this topic.

And you're telling me what's wrong with the blog?

You say that the blog is "poorly read", and I'm sure that's true, but only when you're reading it. I can't help it you're illiterate.

I only hope that you aren't actually Mike Jacobs, as I fear you are, and if you're not, I hope that he isn't as vapid, stupid, juvenile, petty, vindictive, and as warped as you, or we're all in big trouble.

Next time you stagger home from a drunken night with some fat cats at the Blue Ribbon, do yourself and all of us a favor and stay off the computer.

Indy,
Thanks, I needed that.

HeadUsher has single-handedly provided proof of why my anonymity is required. They're trying to make this personal without even knowing who I am! He once threatened to take care of me if we met. I hope this loose screw doesn't assault the wrong person, though I'd pay to see them try to explain themselves to a judge.

Anything that I post that is less than adoring about Jacobs and Usher falls all over himself trying to personally attack me and trash the blog, while conspicuously avoiding addressing the issues involved. It doesn't exactly cover him or Mike Jacobs in glory.

As a matter of fact, after dealing with HeadUsher for several months now, I consider his being pissed off a sure sign that I'm doing something right

And don't worry, I'll never let some blowhard stop me from continuing this blog. If I ever do give it up, it sure won't be because Headusher doesn't like it, believe me.
