Illinois Democratic Central Committee members up for election once more

Each of Illinois' 19 congressional districts elects two representitives, one male, and one female, to serve on the Illinois State Democratic Central Committee, which in essense is the Democratic party apparatus in the state.

They serve as party organizers and fund-raisers and are generally charged with maintaining and invigorating the Democratic party in their districts.

Our two 17th district Central Committee representitives are, and have been for some time, Don Johnston and Mary Boland, both of whom can be expected to appear on the March '06 primary ballot.

Will anyone emerge to challenge either Johnston or Boland? Should someone? Is new blood called for? And if anyone were to challenge either of them, who would be a good candidate or candidates?

Speculate to your heart's content.

Good item, Ms. Dope.

I have two concerns with our current incumbents. As a Democrat who gets to other counties, I have never seen Mary Boland out on the stump, out networking, out raising money for other Democrats (which is basically what a State Central Committeewoman is supposed to be doing). I have heard she is a stalking horse for her husband, State Rep. Mike Boland, who wants to run for Congress someday.

Whatever the case, I would urge Mary Boland to step down as soon as possible and let someone who wants to work for the party in all 23 counties run instead.

My second comment and I'll shut up.

I think the other incumbent, Don Johnston, should also step down.
He seems to be out promoting himself and his business as much as promoting other Democrats.

Why don't we let some new energy run and win in those party positions.

I agree neither seems to want to help Democrats, although I do think Johnson does way more than Mary Boland!

I was amazed prior to the March 2004 primary while attending a chili supper fundraiser for Rock Island Township Democrats among those people in attendance was 17th District Central Committeewoman Mary Boland. Also in attendance was a young Madigan Staffer Marty who was in from Chicago to run State Rep. Mike Boland's campaign. This event was NOT being held in Rep. Boland's District. When candidates or their representatives were asked to speak to the crowd we listened to Mike Darrow, and on behalf of Pat Verschoore we heard from his eloquent and passionate wife Char. I looked to Mary Boland anxious to hear from her, when young Marty stands up and reads a five minute written biography of Mike Boland.

Mart was a great speaker and if you ever need a Madigan staffer to run your campaign, I would put him at the top of the list. He's no Porter McNeil, but I digress.

The point is that we need someone more like Char Verschoore who can at least stand up and speak for her own husband among Democrats. How effective can you be at growing the party and providing leadership if you can't even speak up for your husband among friends.

I also hear that the Boland's tried to get on the ballot as delegates for different Democratic candidates in the 2004 election to double their chances of getting to go to the Democratic National Convention. Please, Please anyone tell me one thing that Mary Boland has done in her job as 17th District State Central Committeewoman to help Cong. Lane Evans or to deserve being retained in office.

We need strong leadership to re-elect Lane and take back the Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008. Is anyone out there?

Shama you are right - about Mary Boland. She is silent at every single event. She rarely attends without her husband at anything and stands in the corner smiling.

I have wondered if she has an opinion about anythin?? Yes, we need another woman to step up to the plate and run against her and help out the rest of our fine Dems in office!!

It just feels like Mary is simply there as a Boland placeholder on the ballot for Mike Boland to run against Lane or to further his career. Talk about a glass ceiling for women!! It's in the Boland house from what I can see---- Comon - Mary - prove me wrong and DO SOMETHING!!!

This partisan attack aginst MAry Boland is unwarrented. Mary is a very active committeewomen, doing everything in her power to help re-elect Lane Evans.
