LaHood takes himself out of Governor's race

As first reported at Capitol Fax, Ray LaHood, considered a prime Republican contender for Illinois Governor, has announced that he intends to seek re-election to congress.

Now here is an interesting scenario. LaHood does not run for the Republican nomination. Judy Baar Topinka now sees an opening and announces she will run for governor. Mike Boland sees an opening and announces he will run for treasurer. Qualified democrats see an opening and run for Boland's seat.

Ahh, what sweet joys come from dreams.

Boom! One shift and it's a whole new ballgame. Now that's what makes this sordid business of politics interesting.

The LaHood announcement may be the butterfly batting it's wings that causes a hurricane, so to speak, in the 71st district.

I think as a show of good faith maybe the Jacobs money goes to Boland to help him run for a hand to run statewide.
I mean they have buried the hatchet.
And it is a way to get him to move on so we can get some new blood around here!

I agree with Diehard - since Jacobs is going to skate into office free -- he does not need any money at all-- he can give it to Boland and help him go up a rung.

After all they are buddies now and have kissed and made up and all. Let's see a true showing that they are sincere. Mike has plenty of money - he can afford to help his new friend Mike Boland now.

I saw the writing on the wall in the Chicago Trib months ago when LaHood was left out of the bus tour in the Chicago land area hosted by the big Rubs. He was already stuck in a booking in the QC at a Kewanee college commencement and at some shindig in Moline of all places to help the albatross of a Mayor in Moline among others try to get funded - or fund him or whatever.

LaHood was caught off guard by that whole scheduling mess and very hurt - as you could see he was loosing the battle to become the Front runner for Gov for the Rubs.
