Incumbants swept out in Moline School Board race

As noted on election night by alert Dopester Fly-on-the-Wall, Moline did indeed vote out two incumbant members of the School Board, including it's current president Bob Tallitsch. The other member ousted at the polls was Lynn Friesth.

Bob Vogelbaugh, Linda Kay Davis, and Kathy Weiman won the three seats available in the eight-candidate race. Mr. Vogelbaugh, known throughout the Quad-Cities as "Mr. Thanksgiving," was the leading vote-getter in the race, with 3,575 votes.

Small restaurant owner Vogelbaugh likely won due to his name recognition through heavy press attention to his annual Thanksgiving dinners provided free of charge, though he possesses no apparent background or experience in education.

I still wish I knew what was going on up at UTHS and with their school board, superintendent, and their 27 principals. why do they just keep electing the same people over and over? sometimes change is good.

Unfortunately Captain, I don't have any sources on the subject of the UTHS board and their top-heavy administration. I think you have a very valid complaint though. It deserves to be looked into.

Right off the bat, I'm no expert on Illinois side politics.

If someone had told me that both incumbents were going to lose, I would have given that Lawrence kid a pretty good chance of getting in. Mr Turkey would claim one of the 3 spots, but that'd leave 2 more. You just never know.

Moline now has some new fresh faces to try and correct some of the problems with our schools. What a nice change this will be without Tallish - it was way way past time for him to step down from the post. Wonder who the new president will be?? I vote for Mr. Thanksgiving!!

Can ANYONE tell me why Vogelbaugh is even remotely qualified for a position on the school board? Anyone? Beuller?

Well last time I talked to him he had quite a few refreshing ideas on the No Child Left Behind mess we are in thanks to our Prez W.

Plus he is a strong advocate for all children in our community including the special needs group and he runs a training program at a local agency in partnership with our schools for starters...

Thanks for that info Anon.
Other than passing out turkey at Thanksgiving, I had no idea what qualification Vogelbaugh had to be the leading contender on the school board.

There are plenty of people concerned about children and education, but they're not necessarily qualified to help lead the entire school system.

I hope Vogelbaugh will prove to be a welcome addition to the board.

Mr. V Cant do any worse than these other "qualified" people. In fact, the geniuses we have in control now gave us this deal where every stinkin' Wednesday we all have to leave work to pick up our kids so the teachers can get more time to do thier jobs. Most of us have to work overtime for this purpose!

They made this decision without regard to the people who put them in charge, therefore, they do NOT rock. Give the guy a chance.
