Bush, thinking outside the box, decides on military solution for immigration problem

Chimpy McFlightsuit is going to go on teevee tonight and 'splain that he's going to deploy thousands of National Guard troops to the U.S./Mexican border in an effort to stop illegal immigration.

What a shock. Bush? Looking to the military to address a problem? Bush does seem like nothing so much as a kid playing with "army men". (Kin I put some of 'em over here, Uncle Dick?)

Think this is a great move, long overdue?
Or is it a stupid, short-sighted sop to try to stop his plunging popularity?
Are they going to have a guy standing every 10 ft along the entire border?
Will it have much effect on the number of illegal immigrants?
It will have no effect on those already here, so what does it accomplish as far as the immigration debate?
Does this mean that we'll now have a permanent military presense along the border? Should we build a wall along the U.S. Canadian border as well?
How about a giant space bubble that will protect the entire country? Oh yeah, Bush really really wanted that, before 9-11 came along. It was called the Star Wars missile defense plan and was a multi-billion dollar pipe dream.

So.... what do you think about deploying these National Guardsman, who, it's reported, will be sent there as part of their training.

The only answer to this problem is for the USA to annex Mexico---lots of cheap oil and labor. What's not to like?

I see dumbo is at it again. Most of the jobs that the imigrants do are jobs that most of us will not do.
Also the jobs that we will do are going to Mexico at an alrming rate. ( Matag and countless others.)

Now call me stupid but I do not see the priority the same as dumbo does.

This is not in any way a slam on the hard working hispanic comumity. They for the most part are hard working individuals that wish to have the same oportunity that my ancestors did when they came to this country in the mid 1800's. Thank goodness dumbo was not in office at that time.

I don't know who you're referring to, and I wish you wouldn't that way, but I think it's erroneous to say that immigrants are doing jobs "Americans won't take". That's BS. Americans will take them, but they won't do them for next to nothing... which is what immigrants do them for.

That's a very important distinction and illustrates why corporations and large agriculture want them here. They drive down wages across the board for all Americans.

Anytime you have an endless supply of labor willing to work for near slave wages, then it wrecks things for everyone.

Anonymous/ Dumbo -
"most are hardworking individuals who want the same opportunity" - who are you talking about?

Legal immigrants, no one has an issue with. However, 'illegal' immigrants, I do not care how 'hard working' they are, they have broken the law!

Do we speak about a crack-dealer with, "well, he is hard-working and he is just looking for the same opportunity that the union guy has" - of course not.

Legal immigrants - WE LOVE YOU!
Illegal (anything) - 'illegal' means illegal!
