News photo of the day

This picture shows a now notorious place the Republicans would rather you not think about. Where is it, and why has it been in the news?
Hint: It's in the U.S.

SIGH.. .Evidently no readers had a clue on this one. The picture shows the Tsongas narrows between Ketchikan, Alaska and Gravina Island. This is the proposed spot for the now infamous "Bridge to Nowhere" project proposed by Rep. Don Young R-AK.

It will cost at least $315 MILLION dollars to construct a bridge across this stretch of water and connect Ketchikan on the left to Gravina island on the right, which has only 50 residents.

Despite the massive defecit and dire financial strain the country finds itself under, Young and the Republicans refuses to even consider dropping the project.
