"War on Terror" somehow fails to keep Londoners safe

At least 37 innocent people dead and more than 700 wounded in London.

"There are some who feel like the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is, bring 'em on."

Look for the White House to suggest that this attack is a sign that they're suceeding in the so-called "war on terror."

And I thought the right assured us that since we were kindly providing them with plenty of American targets to kill and maim in Iraq, the terrorists just didn't have a spare minute in their schedule to take care of terror attacks here and elsewhere.

Guess they must have managed to squeeze this one in. As if there's some finite number of "terrorists" and the number never changes. Heck, once we kill all them "terists", we win, right?

But tragically, Bush's policies are creating more terrorists than ever would be the case normally, far more than we can ever slaughter. Gee, doesn't it just make your chest swell with pride that our great country is engaged in a war to see how many people we can kill, while contantly spouting the platitude that we have to do this because "those people's" only purpose in life is to kill us all... even YOU!! We have to destroy Iraq and it's people in order to save them.

If someone walked into a psychiatrist's office 50 years ago and laid out these actions and the rationales that Bush and his henchmen have, they'd lock them in a rubber room. It's not reality-based thinking. But that's what happens when you decide to do what you want and then try to invent the reasons afterwards. Everyone but the most blind Bush supporters realize that something doesn't make sense in all of this.

And I recalled Bush and his henchmen telling us that once we invaded Iraq we'd all be safer. Then that once Sadaam was captured, we'd all be safer. Then that once elections were held and the Iraqi government installed we'd all be safer.

The fact is that terror attacks world-wide have increased and it'd directly due to Bush's incredibly short-sighted and bungled little war, justified by lies and continued based on lies.

And the fact remains that this attack or others like them may be the work of a very small group radical terrorists with no coordination or even connection with Al Queda or any larger organization. The 100's of billions of dollars and acres of caskets returning to families in the U.S. and around the world isn't, and CAN'T, do a damn thing to stop such attacks. It's all a collosal and immoral waste. But the continued effort to take over Iraq and take it's assets WILL serve to ensure that such attacks continue and likely will increase.

Bush's actions and continued refusal to face reality endangers the stability and safety of the entire globe, and even the brain-washed masses in the U.S. are finally starting to wake up. And not a moment too soon.

But look for Rove/Bush to take advantage of the chance to promote and capitalize on fear as a tool to use in gaining approval for even more of their agenda. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow tie this attack to allowing Bush to install far-right nominees to the Surpreme Court, as far-fetched as it seems. Watch and see how they cynically capitalize on this for unrelated political gain.

What in the name of God was Rudy Giuilani doing in London this morning? I was stunned to read that he was very near one of the bombings. Christ, that guy just has no luck with bustling cities.

It is unpatriotic to disagree with our President, and it is nothing less than treasonous to question his unscrupulous political advisor, when our mass transit system is at Terror Level Ernie.

I must say that I was surprised by today's terror attacks in London. I had thought that the world became safe the moment that Saddam Hussein was stripped of his weapons of mass destruction.

In all seriousness, I have for some time been gravely concerned about the impact upon the United States, once suicide bombers begin striking here. It is difficult to comprehend the extent to which we may lose our freedoms and suffer economic devastation when our malls, our movie theaters and our restaurants are no longer thought by us to be safe.

The beating of the suicide bomber's footsteps was somehow rather faint as he attacked restaurants in Israel. The footsteps became much closer and louder today as they approached our doorstep. They may soon visit us right here at home. When they do, one wonders whether we as a nation will have the fortitude to preserve any of our freedoms.

What the hell are you talking about? Get over to DU and join the blame the US and Karl Rove and President Chimpy McHitlerBush. They did visit us here at home disenter. What solution aside from the Clinton doctrine of doing nothing do any of you any of you Turd Furgeson's have? Get off your parent's couch and get a clue.

Dave -

Why don't you head over there and find those WMD's? We are sending our young Americans to die in a misguided war and all you can do is make fun of dissenters. Dissent is the highest form of patriotism -- did you know that?

When you all hammered Commander in Chief Bill Clinton didn't you consider that your patriotic duty?

Someday you will understand that this current war effort has been misguided from the start, and begun under false pretenses (weapons of mass destruction).

And someday you will realize that our very aggressive actions have actually triggered more terrorism along the way.

To think that way, in your view, is unpatriotic. Dissent is the highest form of patriotism, Dave, and I welcome your views on that matter.

At 7/07/2005 10:20 PM, Blogger Dave said...

Is your solution, since you gave none, dissenters rarely do, to cut and run? It's not an option. Explain how dissent is the highest form of patriotism. If you still believe Bush lied to take us to war, what is his motivation. Why?
You honestly believe he did it for oil, Haliburton, revenge for his father? What is it? Deal with the present situation.

Clinton was not aggressive and we got 9/11. Your only solution appears to be patriotic and to dissent. That doesn't help those young Americans and neither does complete withdrawl.

Just stick with dissenting, solutions are overrated.

What's your solution Dave? Nuke 'em?

At 7/07/2005 11:22 PM, Blogger Dave said...

Kill as many of 'em as we can seeing as we're there. Convince the Iraqis to ball up and take responsibility for their own country. The South Vietnamese wouldn't fight either. Let them write their constitution, hold some elections and get the hell out of that god forsaken hell hole.
Then use special ops to quell the uprisings that will no doubt occur.
There's a civil war right now and we're fighting to make sure the right team wins.

What's yours?

I have read Dave's posts carefully, and they have actually made me dumber.

It is rather amusing, nevertheless, to review some of his comments more carefully.

"THEY DID VISIT US HERE AT HOME DISENTER." I was referring to small-scale, synchronized suicide bombers in common areas such as malls, theaters and restaurants. I argued that such small-scale attacks, occurring with a frequency similar to that with which they occur in Israel, will substantially disrupt our economy and perhaps enable those so inclined to strip us of our freedoms. Dave's response is that "they did visit us here at home disenter." I was referring to a different, small-scale but more frequent and wide-spread form of terrorism. Those with higher intellect understand the distinction between that and 9/11. And they spell "dissenter" correctly.

"EXPLAIN HOW DISSENT IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF PATRIOTISM." The expression of political dissent allows for the collaboration of multiple conflicting ideologies in order to achieve the most thoughtful political solution. Much more importantly, it keeps power in check. In 1776, several men joined together, at the risk of death, to sign a document called the Declaration of Independence. They were dissenting from the views of the tyrant King. In so doing, they were, by all accounts, the very first and perhaps the very greatest of patriots. Until today. When they came to be known by you as "Turd Furgesons." You should, however, be credited with revealing the little known fact that to the dismay of our Nation's Founding Fathers, Turd Furgeson was allowed to sign the Declaration of Independence. Two signatures down from John Adams; a few columns over from John Hancock. The King of England therefore refused to take the document seriously, and the Revolutionary War ensued. A war fought by patriots, with dissent as its very impetus.

"IF YOU STILL BELIEVE BUSH LIED TO TAKE US TO WAR, WHAT IS HIS MOTIVATION?" First, it is undisputed that the original justification offered by this administration for the Iraq war was the purported existence of weapons of mass distruction. "He must disarm, or we will disarm him." Remember that? Second, it is undisputed that there were no weapons of mass destruction. Now people of your intellect often argue, "Well if you liberals had your way, Saddam Hussein would still be in power." Damn right. He would still be in power, and he would still be powerless. And 1,800 patriots would not be lying in cold graves tonight. Our military would not be stretched so thin that it is ill-equipped to deal with the ever-growing problems in North Korea and elsewhere. Middle Eastern tensions would not be further exacerbated.

"KILL AS MANY OF 'EM AS WE CAN SEEING AS WE'RE THERE."
Damn right!! YEE HAA, DAVE!!!! Git 'er done!! Let's kill all them sum bitches be'fer they start dissenting! Then we'll drink us some beer and harass fellers that don't look like us! We'll start with that patriotic guy, Turd Furgeson. And eventually we'll make our way around to each other.

Dave, when it comes down to it, you are the reason I dissent. You and others like you. As long as people like you are in power, and sadly they are right now, there will be people like me to rise up and dissent with our strongest voices.

Comparing your sitting around bitching to the "dissent" of the founding fathers is intellectually dishonest and you still have not offered a solution, I suspect you don't have one. Nor can you explain why you believe Bush lied.

Cut and run from who? The terrorist that actually perpetrated th 911 attacks are all dead!
That way they cannot be questioned about who was involved.

All right then, cut and run from the imaginary islamic terrorists in Iraq and Afgahnistan. Now do you have a solution or not?

So if there's a guy in your town who wants to kill your child (I'm reasonably sure you don't have children, so substitute anyone). Would you prefer the policeman go find the guy, or guard your house full time?

What we need is an effective President of the United States to implement a timely withdrawal that protects the security of Iraqi's, empowers them to take care of themselves (without the endless blood of American soldiers sacrificed throughout the region), and establishes perameters for other countries to help as well.
This can't be an American solution and an American sacrifice, no matter how much our Cowboy Foreign Policy wants it to be.

Since we don't have an effective Commander in Chief right now, I am not confident in the ability of getting the aforementioned planned implemented soon.

At 7/08/2005 1:23 PM, Blogger diehard said...

Oh! I wondered what you were saying provide a solution.
Well I'm not the one that got us into this mess.

well let's pretend you've been tasked with providing a solution. Just to say "get rid of Chimpy McBusHitler" doesn't count.

Our first task is reshaping our foreign policy into an effective one. But first we need an effective Commander in Chief who tosses this Cowboy Foreign Policy that has led to too many -- far too many -- American lives lost.
Yes, we should bear some burden over there, but from the start the Bush Policy has been to "go it alone" and that's not good enough.
Having Tony Blair at our side is not good enough. An effective President would have made sure America didn't bear the major burden before heading to war there.

We cannot be the world's policeman, or in this case, Texas Cowboy. We can do better, Dave, and I welcome your help in getting this message to the Bush-Cheney team ASAP. Thanks!!

When Bush says "Bring em on" what the hell is that???

Is he taunting the terrorists? He can't be serious and must not realize what he is doing (well that's daily with BUsh)

This is not kindergarten and we are not playing on the playground. This sad situation involves human life here ---and I wish the idiot - I mean Bush - could be muzzled or something.

Doesn't he realize every time he opens his mouth and says something stupid like this, people die? What a moron. How many more days until we send him packing and he goes back to Crawford Texas where he can blast his mouth off to the cattle and the turkey buzzards??
