Jacobs recovering in hospital

The Dispatch/Argus picks up the story reported here yesterday.
Former state senator Denny Jacobs was recovering at a Springfield hospital Tuesday after collapsing Monday night outside a capital city restaurant.

Jacobs, who had stepped outside the restaurant to get a breath of fresh air, appeared pale and was breathing heavily. When someone went back out to check on him, he was lying unconscious on the ground, said his son, Sen. Mike Jacobs, D-East Moline.

At a doctor's urging, Denny Jacobs checked himself into St. John's Hospital on Monday night. He was to remain in the hospital Tuesday night.

"At this time, he's undergoing a battery of tests, and we're hoping and praying that Denny's back on his feet soon," said Mike Jacobs, adding his father, who had been diagnosed previously with a heart murmur, seemed to be feeling better.

By late Tuesday, it appeared his father's collapse might have been caused by a reaction to medicines he was taking, Mike Jacobs said.

Mike Jacobs said his father was lucky he collapsed where people would find him rather than being at home or alone.

Here's hoping Denny is up and about soon.

Our friend anonymous is what they call an "idiot savant". He's really quite brilliant in some ways, but otherwise considered mentally challenged. The trick is to decipher his enigmatic comments to unearth the wisdom within.

I have no freaking idea what he means.

Mrs. Gump: Did you hear what I said, Anonymous No. 1? You're the same as everybody else. You are no different.

Principal: Your boy's... different, Mrs. Gump. Now, his I.Q. is seventy-five.

As a newbie to the blog I want my first comment to be to Denny - GET WELL! Keep us posted The Dope.

I too am a newbie to this blog. But I have heard absolutely wonderful things about it. And despite the implication by anonymous, this site is the very first place where I learned of the news. In fact, honestly, I wonder if the ambulance had arrived in the restaurant parking lot by the time the story was posted here.

I heard aboutit on Capital Fax first

CAPITOL FAX broke this story, probably because Denny's hospitalization occurred in the Capitol City.

The Capitol Fax had an item saying that Jacobs was in the hospital with no further information.

Last I looked, there still isn't any further info there.

The Dope did not say he "broke" the story. Only that it was reported here yesterday. This was the first place to report anything beyond that he was hospitalized.

It pains me to even read this. The story broke on THIS SITE for ME, due to the following reasons: 1. None of the rest of you sucks are running a great local website like this. 2. You're not even the administrator of a crappy website.

Your criticisms of Dope are ridiculous for the following reasons: 1. This is the only local website that ran the shorts on the story as it broke. 2. This is the only regional or state-wide website that ran accurate details of the story before it was reported in the mainstream media. 3. Refer to reasons 1 and 2 in the preceding paragraph.

I love this site, and even if I do not agree with everything posted, I truly enjoy the intelligent analyses presented on this site. But most of the foolish criticismsof Dope, as to the Jacobs story, are painful to read.

It's at times like these when I read some of the anonymites comments and am despairing for the future of humanity that one of my favorite poems comes to mind,

Speaking of cows, (which no one was doing),
Why are they always staring and chewing?

Staring at people, chewing at clover,
Doing the same things over and over.

Once in a while you see a cow mooing
Or swishing her tail at a fly that needs shooing.

Most of the time, though, what are cows doing?
Staring and looking, munching and chewing,

Eyes never blinking, jaws always moving.
What are cows thinking? What are cows proving?!

Cows must not care for new ways of doing.
That's what they stare for. That's why they're chewing.
