R.I. County Chairman to announce pick

Rock Island County Democratic Chairman John Gianulis called a very brief press conference today to announce that he'll proclaim his pick for the Evans slot sometime this coming Thursday.

Aside from his influence over some people, his pick is not law, but it will be interesting to find out who it may be.

So... who's John G. going to endorse?

If the best candidate is from RI county thats great but john G keeps saying that the candidate must come from RI. How about we just pick the best guy for the job whoever it is district wide?

This whole process is rigged for Phil Hare. End of story!

John G will bow down to Evans and give the underqualified Hare his endorsement.

This is a softball question. The answer is easy: Phil Hare. Anyone that's been around anyone from RI Dem HQ this week knows it.

What I'd REALLY like to know is why John G. was mum at Friday's "press conference." Did he get some last minute advice? Did someone threaten to legally challenge his endorsement of Phil Hare? Did he decide that he'd better spend the next 6 days working behind the scenes to rally his troops behind him and get them on message?

The real question is: How effectively can Phil Hare compete for the seat?

We ought to be asking this question honestly for each potential candidate before falling in lockstep behind the party chiefs.

For if we blindly follow out of loyalty/respect/fear, we may find ourselves with Andrea Zinga as the 17th District rep.

Phil won the seat when Lane gave it to him. End of story!

When Lane handed it to Hare it was all over. At least Jacobs was smart enbough to understands that much. What is wrong with Boland? What doesn't he understand. I think he isstarting to do damage to his chance for reelection to the House.

Insider, are your shorts too tight by any chance?

What you want Boland to understand is that there's not a shred of democratic process involved here, right?
That no one should dare put themselves forward unless they are they've been annointed by Gianulis and Evans?

It's hacks like you that give local politics a bad name.

Yuo keep saying that there is no democratic process - but will Boland run for congress and rep both at the same time? Will he appoint someone as rep if he can only run for one office?

They want someone from this county for when the district is remapped. Duh.

FX, while I can't say with certainty, several people have asserted that Boland can not run for two seats at the same time. Others have said he can, so obviously, it's stupid to assume that:
A. He can run for both at once, and
B. That he wants to.

Neither one is known for sure.

Nor is who would do the appointing if someone were to be appointed to his seat.

Your statement makes little sense unless you think the district is going to be remapped to include only Rock Island County.
