About time

Gov. Tom Vilsack said Friday that he soon will sign an executive order restoring voting rights to convicted felons who have served their sentence.

"This action we take is not going to be a pardon," Vilsack said.

The governor said only four other states -- Alabama, Florida, Kentucky and Virginia -- prohibit felons from voting after completing their sentences.

"We're here today to talk about justice," Vilsack aid. "When you've paid your debt to society, you need to be reconnected to society."

Amen to that. Kudos to Governor Vilsack for righting this wrong and having the courage to do the right thing.

Too bad Vilsak's stepping down and giving Iowa a good chance of getting Nussle at the helm.

I remember the Davenport Chamber doing an big press event after the last election with Vilsack and saying how great a Guv he was while also saying and 'by the way he's not running again' - smiling and ecstatic the whole time they gushed over him - like that was a gift to the Iowa business community from the Democratic party - and it was....

So hurry up Vilsack and get the good work done while you can - before Iowans get stuck with the powerful right wing mouthpiece Nussle. I don't see anyone with the money or star power to beat him for Guv - sadly.
