"Victory!" said Irv Draper, founder of Taxpayers For Wise Choices, who announced the bond's defeat from the steps of City Hall. "Today, the city council stood up in favor of the long-term interests of tax-paying Mankatoans. After 10 long years of ceaseless toil, I can finally say that a swimming pool will not be built!"
After 328 council meetings, 5,863 letters, four lawsuits, and an estimated 41,000 man-hours, Draper has earned a reputation as a crazy jackass who will journey to hell and back to make sure Mankato's children do not swim in a city-owned pool.
"Democracy is often a tedious process," Draper said. "If you want something not accomplished, you have to hang in there."

Ten years of life dedicated to getting municipal pool not built
The Onion has a piece that highlights the political danger of being against something popular. Hilarious, as usual.

Don't be stupid. Really, don't be stupid.
Stop. Reread your comment. Does it make sense?
Are you making something up out of thin air in order to attack me with it? Reading something into a post that's clearly not there or even implied?
Then don't bother posting. For that matter, if that's the case, don't bother coming back.
As an avid swimmer and a big believer that young people need swimming pools during the summer to keep them healthy and out of trouble, I hereby declare that guy a first-rate public nuisance and an idiot to boot!
ReplyDeleteOh boy... what am I gonna do with this bunch.
ReplyDeleteJohnny... no doubt you noticed that that story is what people call a "parody". Did you actually read it? Visit The Onion more often. It's a guaranteed laugh. www.theonion.com
Anyway, I agree, swimming's good for kids.
