Welcome and Thanks

I'd just like to thank all who have visited and especially those who have joined in by leaving comments. I highly encourage all to share your thoughts, ideas, comments, rants, kudos, witty jabs, snide remarks, random musings, or anything else that pops into your head.

Let's make this a place to enjoy each others views and to have a spirited, thoughtful, and stimulating debate on the issues raised here. (But feel free to raise your own issues too!)

And get in touch. I'm wide open for tips, suggestions, or alerts. And feel free as well to send your compliments, praises, or scorching condemnation and abuse. I can handle it. Don't hold back. You can send me mail by clicking the "send mail" link to the right.

Again, thanks to those who have left comments, and I encourage all others to jump on the bandwagon.

TO "INSIDE DOPE"

FROM "BLUE STATE"

Keep up the good work.

Would you please pull up comments that other DNC candidates made while applying for the job. Notably, Tim Roemer of Indiana and Donnie Fowler Jr. Both made compelling comments about our party's reach-out efforts in red states and about the need to fire some of the overpaid D.C--based consultants who have helped our party lose the White House two times in a row, plus the House and the Senate.

Feel free to look them up yourself and send them to me.

And a little protocol note... there is no reason to put a "From" in comments. As you can see, it says at the bottom who the comment is from.
As to putting a "To" line.. if it's to me or to the blog in general, it's needless.

The only time you might want to indicate who a comment is for is if you're addressing a comment up the thread in order to let people know what you're responding to.

This isn't formal... by a long shot. You'll catch on.

I suggest as the best example of really brilliant commenters and a great blog community that you visit the Eschaton site run by Atrios. Click on the link to it in the link list on the right side of the page. Warning: Reading his commenters is addictive.

We love you Porter!

So you think McNeil is a liar when he's denied being the creator of this blog both here and at Capital Fax?? Not very nice.

This Porter McNeil stuff is getting VERY tiresome. The morons that insist on continuing to make posts about it are just that, morons, since they have no facts or knowledge to back up their suspicions at all. (If they do, I'd love to see them.)

How do I know? Because Porter McNeil DID NOT create this page. Do they think McNeil's the only Dem in the area that can string more than two words together? If so, that's pretty sad.

I certainly have nothing against McNeil, but frankly, I'm getting damn tired of people attributing all my work to him. And really, it's not fair to him to have people think he's the creator of this blog.

Either stop this stupid obsessive speculation or I'll just delete it when I see it.

I mean, it would be different if you weren't so damn WRONG and if it wasn't so supremely annoying to myself as well as unfair to McNeil.

If I had known for a moment when I launched this blog that so many knuckleheads would think it was the work of someone else, I'm not sure I would have done it.

Give me a break.

The Dope has spoken.

What's hard to believe? And WHY??

This just blows me away.

And by the way, this isn't a democracy here at the Inside Dope, it's more of a benign dictatorship. ;-)

I've got to tell you all, this is an amusing debate. And I appreciate (I think) the fact a few folks think I'm the brain behind this new site. It's a good thing to have more, not less, debate about the issues in our community.

But let me give you all a powerful clue. The host of this site, whomever she/he may be, clearly does not share my views on national politics. As a hard-headed, DLC moderate, I take issued with the "INSIDE DOPE's" unrelenting love affair with driving the Democratic Party dramatically to the left in order to win national elections again.
We have fundamental differences over the direction and the message of our party.

That should have been the first clue to those sleuths out there trying to figure out the origin of this site.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw in my two cents since my name has been tossed around a bit lately here.

Cheers,

Porter (309-236-1484)

While I disagree with Mr. McNeil's characterization of my views, I welcome his post and I hope this confusion can FINALLY be put to rest.

I know all the political types out there feel that they have to know all the inside dope, so to speak, and like to think they're able to know all the backstory to everything. After all, that's their stock in trade.

But in this case, they could only come up with one suspect, and unfortunately for them, they're dead wrong. And they've sure have a hard time coming to grips with that.

The Dope doesn't waste time trying to figure out the true identities of commenters, and doesn't care. So The Dope is baffled why commenters are apparently wasting a lot of time trying to figure out the identity of the Dope.

So to Porter and everyone else, welcome. I hope this an informative and stimulating experience. As I've said repeatedly, it depends on the participation of readers in comments and also contributing items of interest.

Visits to the site have increased steadily every day and I hope to create a good little community here of interested and interesting people.

Yeah, we can tell. Especially when you posted anonymously!
This is getting hilarious!

I took the comment above to imply that The Dope is somehow dishonest by remaining anonymous. IF that's what the commenter was implying, The Dope invites them to cite any examples.
My views are honest, what I put up is honest, so where's the dishonesty, dude?

honestly this blog would be a lot better if Porter or Mike Jacobs or Sarah P. or whoever's running it would spend more time blogging and less time trying to hide identities

I wonder how Mr. McNeil must feel that so many people think he's an out and out liar. He's posted not once, but TWICE denying his being behind this site. And people STILL can't get it through their skulls that it's not him.

I am just flabberghasted as to why he's the only person anyone thinks could do this. I'm absolutely baffled. Is he some web whiz? Does anyone even know? Or don't they give a damn about logic? Ask him all about XHTML vs HTML and how he deals with cascading style sheets on the blog. He'd have to know that to be the one that put up this site.
And does Mike Jacobs have the ability and the time to be a state senator AND put up and maintain a blog at the same time? Would he even WANT to?? I would certainly think he has better things to do. Sheesh.

The Dope deeply regrets having to spend even a minute with all this non-sense. But it's not The Dope's fault. He's only saving commenter's from their own stupidity. I'm doing my best, and it would be nice if commenters would devote their time to commenting on all the other issues presented here.

Enough already.

Oh, you mean like you, running and hiding behind a pseudonym when you post?
But the difference here, my friend, is that I'm not a crackpot. ;-)
