It's all over but the shouting...

It's in the books.... Perhaps the upset of the night - Thodos beats Moreno in E. Moline.

O'Brien handily was the top vote getter in the Moline mayoral race, with Welvaert earning the right to oppose O'Brien in the general.

Helen Heiland pulled from 10 votes behind to a 10 vote lead within the last hours to win in E. Moline's Ward 1

Lohse wins as Silvis Mayor

Connie Mohr-Wright wins South Moline Township Clerk

Cockerill is in as Milan mayor.

Pat O' Brien put some good numbers together -- he turned out his base and that's a great thing.

But to win in Moline he's going to have to wake up tomorrow and craft a message that appeals to independents and republicans to win the big race. I think he can do it, but he can't win with a primary democratic message.

Go Pat!

The Dope is pleased that O'Brien's expensive efforts have paid off handsomely.

I hope that the good citizens of Moline are looking for a change after the long, undistinguished Repub regime.

No doubt some of the pashas in the Moline Repub Club will throw truckloads of cash to Welvaert, after all, it's pocket change to them. And they stand to make even more money with city government remaining in their pocket.

But Pat's not afraid of working, and I think if people pitch in, he'll be our next mayor.

Anyone staggered home from the parties yet?

There's likely to be a lot of fallout from the E. Moline race. Some very low and nasty tactics were used apparently.

Did Mike Jacobs or Denny Boland have a candidate in the East Moline race? I know Denny backed the winner in Moline, but what about EM?

Boland gave a late endorsement to Thodos and his chief of staff buffoon, I mean Huntoon, was up to his accomplished sign stealing best. A late picture of a busty dancer with a young J. Moreno surfacred, @ a retired EM Cop, and was distributed... same old same old negativity in Western Illnois with the Boland clan involved...

Actually the leading family of sign stealing in Western Illinois, was somewhat subdued this time around. The picture was not just a busty dancer-- it was a 48 triple D Clubhouse dancer-- truely a cheap shot. What you do 20 years ago surfaces now... someone must have had a vendetta, though I doubt any minds were changed with the picture, it still embarassing.

The Dope, alas, had other pressing matters to attend to and did not make it to the Obama event and will depend on other alert Dopesters to provide a review.

The issue of the pictures is extremely upsetting, no matter who you were for or against. I mean, what was the PURPOSE of it? Scare off a few votes? At what expense?
Unconfirmed tales have the picture being sent to Moreno's house addressed to his wife and kids. If that's even remotely true, then this definitely is a new low and would indicate that there's truly a psychopathic Thodos supporter out there somewhere.

And contrast sending around that picture with the fact that Thodos had a hit and run drunk driving conviction within the last 18 months!! And Moreno said he wanted to run a clean campaign and did. He never brought out the DUI. And then someone for Thodos did this to him.
OUTRAGEOUS

Alas, the story of the picture being sent to the wife is no story. Fact, Jack! Also to his in-laws. Nice stuff.

Thanks Joe Moreno for running a clean campaign! Shame on Thodos supporters for stooping to a new political campaign low...

WHO is Denny Boland?

HA! Nice catch anonymous!

Now THAT's scary. Just imagine such a beast.

I guess that's the only name for a cross between the two, after all, we already have a Mike Jacobs.

If such a thing existed, it would spend all it's time fighting with itself.

I was just thinking about how important it was to get along after a hard fought fight when I got shot right in the buttocks.

Assuming that these pictures showed up at Moreno's house and his in-laws, I think the person responsible should be hunted down and publicly horse-whipped. And that would be too good for them. I have never heard of a more dispicable act. The fact that it was not done to raise a legitimate issue, but rather to cause Moreno personal harm is just ... insane, not to mention criminal. There can NEVER be any excuse for such absolutely loathsome behavior in a campaign, EVER.

I truly hope more digging is done on this and that anyone with any information contacts the Dope.

I think the public has a right to know what sort of things are done on behalf of candidates in the area.

First and foremost, let me state that I had no dog in this fight. I thought Moreno was a fine mayor, though I'd not familiarized myself with the record or issues to any great extent. But I had no gripe against Thodos either, and he was a blank slate to me. I had no preference either way.

But these incidents, whether you supported one candidate or the other, or none at all, should be roundly aired and firmly condemned, and since it was done supposedly to benefit Thodos, he should be the first one to publicly condemn it.

I'd hope that even Thodos supporters would be ashamed of this reprehensible tactic and call for such a statement. At the very least, a personal appology would be in order.

Anyone that lets this sort of rank crap happen in their behalf, whether they were aware of it at the time or not, and does nothing about it after it comes to light doesn't deserve to be dogcatcher.

This kind of BS gives East Moline, and politics and politicians in general a big fat black eye.

And they wonder why the public is turned off?

How about asking former Mayoral Candidate Bobbie Ellis about the pictures... that's where the questioning should start...

Sorry Dope this time I have to remain anonymous... But that's where the questioning should be directed

The Dope understands.

The Dispatch mentions the photo...details in post above.

Dope,

Have you received any more info, off line, that would help us understand who was behind this terrible act of campaigning? Can you help us solve this mystery?
If you could, the citizens of Rock Island County would owe you a debt of gratitude.
