Calling all gourmands

Since I'm hungry as hell, good places to eat are on my mind.
I need your input on great places to eat and drink.

There's the chains, there's one of a kinds like Jim's Ribs, and the high-end joints such as Johnny's, Biaggi's, Le Figaro, and others.

There's several places I haven't hit yet, including Five (or is that out of business already?), the new Blue Ribbon in downtown Moline, and Granite City in Davenport, among many.

So chime in. What's your recommended spots to eat in the area? Don't limit yourself to just the Quads. For instance, one of the best meals I've had in ages was at the Forest Inn in Morrison. It was outstanding!

Tell the Dope what eating and drinking establishments would you recommend to say, someone visiting from out of the area. It could be Thai, Indian, Italian, Greek, high class, middle class, or no class.

Give us your top five area places to eat and tell us why you recommend them.

In the Rockford areas try the Backyard Bar and Grill. The one in Cherry Valley seems the most consistant

Have only eaten in Rockford once lately, at Giovanni's. Only went there as it was across the street from the Holiday Inn where I was staying.
I had no idea what to expect, but it was quite the place. Very high-end, but great food and even better service.

Another time I was there, I saw a place that looked crowded and as if it was a good place. I believe it was called The Olympic. Looked really interesting, but I ended up passing and heading home. Is that place good?

On the Illinois side of the QCs, try the Olympic Flame in Silvis (tasty and authentic Greek food, seafood, steaks). Great, informal, old-style atmosphere.
Also, the Exotic Thai on John Deere Rd. in Moline, Johnny's Italian Steak House in downtown Moline and the Blue Ribbon in downtown Moline. While at the Blue Ribbon, don't miss the lobster chowder for starters. Expensive, but delicious food.

Haven't been to the old Olympic Flame for years. Amazing it's still around.
The Forest Inn in Morrison is run (well) by Greeks, though it's most impressive feature is that it's just packed with dark oak woodwork. The place is beautiful. The reason I mention it here is that about the only Greek item on the menu was flaming cheese which I beleive is served at the Olympic Flame as well. Forgive me, I can't recall what it's called but damn, it's good.

To "INSIDE DOPE" ... flaming cheese Greek style is called Sayanaki (spelling?). And you are right, it is without a doubt one of the best taste treats on the menu at the Olympic Flame in Silvis (just off Ave of the Cities by HyVee). Other taste treats include mousaka, which is sort of a greek lasagna, Greek salad, and so many other taste treats.

There is another excellent restaurant I am sorry we haven't focused on ... The INDIA Restaurant in Moline on Ave of the Cities ... try lamb biryani or any other spicy taste treat.

Why do people eat at places like McDonalds and Hardees when these spots are right here in our community???

hmmmm Maybe because it's fast and econonomical. Not always easy on a budget to take the whole family out for a nice meal somewhere.

Hi Andy Norb,

You are right about needing economical places, but I can assure you that the Indian restaurant on Ave of the Cities in Moline is economical, and so is the Olympic Flame. I have a family and look for ways to cut costs. Give them a try sometime.

Tell us why you like the LV. Boy that sounds tasty. I haven't been to any of the authentic Mexican places for some time. What's great about each?

Just had an awesome seafood pomadoro pasta dish at Johnny's Italian Steak House (clam, shrimp and mussels mixed in with olive oil, garlic and lingquine), topped off with creme brule for dessert.

Deeeeee-licccccccccccious.

Now I know I'm going to have to avoid this thread when I'm hungry. The drool might short out my keyboard!
