Trout fishing in the Q.C.'s

Area fisherman who enjoy chasing the wily rainbow trout won't have to travel hundreds of miles to get to them beginning next fall. The Iowa DNR is extending their winter trout stocking program to include West Lake in Davenport beginning with three initial releases of 10 to 12 inch, half pound rainbow trout next October. The season will run from October through March.

Rainbow trout can't survive water temps over 68 degrees, so one hopes they'll grow rapidly as they'll only be able to enjoy one of our wonderful QC winters. (Wonder if lazy trout lovers will run out when the temps get warm and gather up the poor trout that survived the winter but succumbed to the heat.)

You'll need a fishing license and trout stamp to try your luck at catching this truly beautiful (and tasty) fish.

    dumb, dumber, dumbest and smelly dank, bank, what are these people thinking. maybe next, Iowa Economic Development staff will bring Paris what's her name, oh yah,Hilton, to West lake to bend over and clean up along the edges.That will keep the Iowa boys close to home.

    Well, one could always hope that this move will attract enough fishermen and women to catch the great majority of rainbows before they have to suffer death from high water temps.

    I seem to recall that they actually stocked Prospect Park lagoon in Moline with trout at some time in the past. And it's a stagnant puddle compared to West Lake.
